So my wife was driving the car tonight and came home to say that she loves it! Now I have to compete with her for drive time. She is no performance driver, but she was infatuated with the torque delivery and thought it was awesome. Where are the Acura spokesmen? They should interview her.

My suggestion would be to "inform her" that Acura may be planning a Sport Hybrid MDX in the very near future and that you promise to buy her one the day it reaches the dealerships. Until then, she would be best advised to continue to drive her MDX so she can remain familiar with the "feel" of the MDX in preparation for her new future Sport Hybrid MDX.

After you tell her this, buy her a honking big pair of diamond earrings and pray.

I hear you loud and clear. However we need the trunk space of the MDX for various things. When we got the MDX it was my new favorite car as I liked it more than my TL-SHAWD. Then I screwed up and purchased the 14SHAWD and fell in love again with this car. Granted we are very fortunate to have both of these vehicles (now a 16MDX after the accident), but I would gladly buy a MDX with a similar powertrain to the SH if they were to bring one to market. What a glorious piece of machinery and engineering. Though not perfect and some have had issues, I could not be happier.

There is a "denseness" or "heavy" look to the car from some angles when looking at it from the front view. My eye catches the upper parts of the quarter panels and the hood for this perspective. I find that very attractive and not a lot of other cars seem to look that way. Oh and the goodies.... she is well taken care of. She has no complaints.

That would be nice, but I think a new CTS-V would be more likely. For now it will remain on the wish list.

honestly, if your wife loves the rlx that much and you need the mdx. I don't understand why you don't just buy her one in addition to the other 2 cars. If you're not in a financial position to do so, maybe you shouldn't have a wife. I hope I don't piss anyone off with that, but that's sound advice. :twocents:

Lexus GS-F and Audi RS6 are interesting, but my vote would be for the new CTS-V. Doing nothing now. It is fun think about these things. For now the MDX and RLX will be the only ones in the stable.

CTS-V will take a special person to own it. Namely one with tons of cash, and really large balls to hopefully put it to use and light those fucking tires up. If you let your wife drive that...it's over. Trade the MDX on a Rav4 and just accept that that's your new daily driver.

Again this is all in the theoretical discussion for the CTS-V. It would be on my wish list, but to answer your comment, I am a qualified buyer for such a purchase.

I never understand why people feel the need to justify their financial position to complete strangers online. I don't think he was asking a question with that comment. It's actually a moot point as I suspect most on the RLX forum (PAWS or Hybrid) could buy a CTS-V if they wanted....

I did not think I was justifying myself but I see your point. A $1,750 (est) monthly discretionary purchase I'm sure is not a problem for anyone who can comfortably afford these things. I don't think we are rolling quarters here.

I'm pretty sure he was really questioning his manhood.. testicular fortitude if you will.. moreso than his financial position.

In teh best best drivers car test.. CTS-V was the only car that scored a 10/10 in the stress level it induced on the driver..
Unless you're a ninny who drives with all those control doodads on..

Wait, your wife who almost crashed the Sport Hybrid the first time she drove it is now in love with the car? I'd say you married well. Enjoy driving the MDX, it's over.

You'll have to move up your previous plan to pick up a second Sport Hybrid.....though if she steals your car, your new plan to procure a CTS-V is not a bad one, either.

I married well. We generally drive about 25,000 miles per year between both cars, so it isn't that bad that she likes it. She only drives it for local errands for the most part. When I showed her some youtube videos of new CTS-V reviews she came to the conclusion that it is a 4 door Z-06. I said "its practical and a sports car". She said that I am full of shit and that it is a toy. I corrected her and said it is a weapon according to Chris Harris. I would not do it without her being on board with it as I don't want to sleep in it, but she was actually fairly cool to the idea. Maybe...

I wonder when Acura will introduce a Sh-Hybrid version of the MDX as that is what I'd like to have. Any one read of the MDX getting an AWD version of the Sh-Hybrid?

No, but it would make sense as long as the price differential is reasonable. The biggest issue people have with the Sport Hybrid is really the price--Acura simply can't hang in the over-$60k club yet as proven by RLX sales. In addition, Acura is seemingly unable to market itself out of a paper bag nowadays. People have to understand that the point of the Sport Hybrid is not fuel economy, but performance, and the masses are not there yet. There's a lot of internal fixing at Acura before they can successfully market a SH MDX, and a lot of movement of the masses.

Maybe the NSX will help the masses understand the concept of a "performance" hybrid. Let's hope the Acura marketing dept. can come through for the NSX instead of the dismal performance they demonstrated with the RLX roll-out.

^^Sadly, high-volume sales of the MDX in Sport Hybrid trim is EXACTLY what is necessary to "educate the masses" on the advantages of the Sport Hybrid SHAWD system BUT getting the masses to spend the extra money on the Sport Hybrid would still come down to marketing (not really Acura's forte).

It possibly might take a massive leap of faith by Honda/Acura to offer the MDX only in Sport Hybrid trim at a price comparable to the current models to effectively teach the automotive world about the wonder that is Sport Hybrid SHAWD. Once 50,000+ drivers a year experience the wonder Of SH-SHAWD and tell all their friends, then the technology will truly be appreciated and increased sales of ALL Sport Hybrids should be the result.

This is, of course, just wild speculation on my part and it will never happen, but having tens of thousands of MDX drivers bragging to their friends about getting 30+mpg in an SUV rocket ship that handles like it is on rails... would be the best marketing campaign ever.

My two cents.

Now, where have I heard that before?

Oh, yeah. It was the Porsche Club.

The RLX line is just such an extraordinary buy. I don't know why more people don't "get it" and we have to wait for stories like the one that was told about the owner's wife "discovering" how nice it is.

A Honda Challenge champion drove my Sport Hybrid up and down the Blue Ridge, and pronounced it an excellent all around performance sedan.

There's no way to get people to listen.

They've formed their opinions, and they have their prejudices, and I don't think there's anything much that Honda can do about it.

It'll be the same it was with the 4G TL. It was awful until the year it was gone, and it took that long for the word to get out. Suddenly people realize how good it was and the used car values have gone up.

Drove a nearly $70K Model Y for a week and was so happy to be back in the MDX.

The electronics, novelty, and acceleration are great — but the interior quality and ride quality are in alignment with a $35K car.

Put a Tesla drivetrain in an MDX and you have a winner!!

We purchased the 19 MDX new to replace her 08 RDX (RDX handed down to Daughter). We later added the 18 RLX hybrid 9 months down the road because of liking the MDX hybrid so much. She only had to spend 30 seconds behind the wheel of the RLX on a test drive before she said "I Love this Car!" with the salesman sitting in the back. I was really hoping she would want to keep driving the 19 MDX hybrid and I would get the RLX. We didn't get that RLX because she wanted the red/ebony; which, I found 3 states over.

In honesty, I’m waiting for whatever Hondacura comes up with as a BEV before jumping. I’ve seen too many Teslas with manufacturing defects to buy one. And don’t get me wrong, I completely respect what Tesla has done and I like their cars. I just don’t like them enough to have one in my driveway yet.

in any case, way to bring back a dead thread

That's why I got 2X RLX SH, 1X 2020 and 1X 2017 (recently acquired). I would get more if I come across a good deal (fell off the back of the truck kinda good deal)
