Recent Purchase of 2014 RLX. Have checked tire pressures and adjusted. Cannot get anywhere near claimed mileage. While I understand that it all depends on driving habits getting more than 25% less seems unacceptable. Anyone else having these issues??

Yes, that is off. I have been getting 23 in city driving and 31 on hwy - I now have 2006 miles on the odo. Have you been using premium fuel?

 

I believe the EPA highway mileage test is at around 50 mph. Not many folks driving 50mph on the highways around here - ergo some of the discrepancy. I'm also pretty sure the city EPA test doesn't involve sitting in gridlock during rush hour.

Watch the mileage meter of your MID and you'll see right away the difference in mileage with different speeds on the highway - that is why the speed limit was dropped to 55 mph during the energy crisis in the 70's - it makes a HUGE difference.

 

Also, consider buying your gas from another station, if you use a particular one all the time. I was buying my gas from a certain station and noticed a couple of ticks down in my mpgs. Switched to another station and the mpgs came right back. Ethanol mixture perhaps??

 

In order:

1. Bad gas with too much ethanol or something else.
2. Dealer put in regular at purchase.

I don't think this car would be getting 15-16 mpg even at 80 mph.

Agree with others who say to try gas from elsewhere for a full tank. If still problematic, back to the dealer you go.

There's definitely something to be said for that, based on my personal experience with my daily driver.

I don't want to mention brand names because it might be different in your part of the country, but from my personal experience I have come to favor two particular filling stations in my home town in the country because after 83,000 miles it is clear that the car favors the petrol from those two stations.

My 83,000 mile lifetime average for the car is 23.5 miles per gallon and I am hardly a light foot.

 

OP, not sure where you're at, but could somebody be starting with a winter blend? I think these hurt fuel economy.

 

I have found that I get the best MPGs from Valero gasoling - maybe it is their 'special additive' from S America.

 

I got 33.1 MPG at sea level on the highway.

 

I think the conclusion we can reach is that, once fuel issues have been ruled out as a cause of the OP's poor mileage, then the driver and driving style seems to be the primary factor in mileage achieved.

When driven "normally" many owners appear to be achieving at or better than the EPA numbers - something Acura should be commended for. Some other auto manufacturers design their engines and transmission solely to produce good EPA numbers for marketing purposes (or CAFE compliance) and the consumer rarely come close to those numbers. Honda/Acura engineer their vehicles for driveability and not marketing which is why many of their buyers surpass the EPA numbers (and some could argue why Acura is so poor at marketing). Just my observation and two cents.

 

Not commenting about the OP's driving style (since I don't know anything about it), but the way I see people drive, I'd guess overall MPG for people in my area is probably in the high teens, low 20s. And I suspect they're clueless (or don't care) about why their MPG sucks.

 

Out of the showroom my 2014 RLX Advanced was getting about 6.7 / 15 Mpg - I was rather upset but now believe it was bad gasoline? - The Mpg increased each time I topped the tank off - I try to stick with a Good "Brand Name" gas - I get better Mpg than my wife on the RLX but she is the main driver and averaging about 22.5 Mpg combined (If I use Sport Mode my local Mpg is about the same as hers). On a trip from Ft. Worth, TX, to Omaha, NE & back I zeroed the "B" mileage minder at each fill-up and usually got between 31 & 33 Mpg driving between 60 & 80 using adaptive cruise control. That is mostly Freeway all the way (about 1,500 miles round trip). At one Shell station in York, NE, their mid-grade gas was cheaper in price than regular and so was my Mpg lower (about 26 Mpg).

 

This includes a recent long trip with the CC set at 74 mph

 

The first couple of tanks with my RLX have gone by. Average is 24.3 mpg so far. No long highway trips yet.

 

Dredging this mileage thread up to look at how much real world PAWS RLX mileage differs from the Sport Hybrid potential mileage. If folks are doing better than the minimum with city driving and some are averaging high 20's in mixed driving, that seems pretty good for a 3900 pound car.

With the deals, I'm now actively thing of just jumping on a PAWS RLX.....genuinely conflicted now about waiting on the Sport Hybrid especially with a much larger delta in transaction price.

 

Now a bit over 8000 and I am getting 25 city and 34 hwy. Recent trip to DFW and back (700+ miles mostly hwy) my mileage was 34.5 mpg.

At 49K the RLX Adv is a fine choice of car. Here in SE TX I do not have a daily use for the SH-AWD so I am not second-guessing my purchase decision.

 

I have about 2500 on mine now, and all my miles have been crawling around on city streets with an occasional short hop on a freeway.

I seem to hang right around 20.5 on mid-grade gas (89 octane). I can tell that the car will get MUCH better mileage on the highway, though, since the average will jump up to 23 or 24 with just a few miles of open freeway running.

I'll be making a run from the Dallas/Ft. Worth area to Phoenix soon, and I'm interested in seeing how it does on the interstate.

At what speed on the highway are you getting 34.5 mpg? 75? or 65?

 

6200 miles now, on an RLX Advance.

Lifetime average so far 25.5 mpg, two mpg better than the lifetime average on my 4G TL 6-6 SH-AWD.

 

65/75 is the speed limit on I-45 depending on location; but at the posted limit you might get ran over. Some of the driving was done at 80+. I use ChevronTexaco and Shell premium fuels.

 

at 18k+ miles, I'm averaging around 22-23mpg City / 28-30mpg Hwy. I use only Premium and I typically get gas from either QuickTrip or Shell. Haven't tried Valero.

typical driving speeds for me are 35-50 City and 70-80 Hwy. There is also low to moderate use of "Sport" mode, aggressive lane passes, and other little "fun" things to add a little excitement to my day

 

Wife is getting 23-24 mpg on the first couple of tanks (calculated via Fuelly). Mostly highway miles, actually, but she is a lead foot. All brakes or all gas.

I drove it to work one day and observed 30 mpg (calculated by car info screen) on my regular, mostly highway, roundtrip route. Definitely not the 40-ish mpg I get in my CR-Z (again, calculated via Fuelly) but, either way, whether driven by my wife or myself, VERY respectable mpg for a sizeable (and fun/sporty) sedan.

 

How a person drives really does make quite a difference. On the same drive with wife driving, the RLX gets 2 mpg less than when I drive the same route. We drive 37 miles to work, and she does not know how to feather the gas when traffic slows and then speeds up.
Still not bad however for a big heavy car, abt 28 with abt 18 miles of non freway driving and 17 miles of slow freeway driving for our daily commute one way.

Drove abt 150 miles last weekend with 3 guys and our golf gear and got 32.5 going; 29.3 returning (more uphill return trip)

Can't wait for a Las Vegas desert trip to check out the mpg's..My TL does about 30 on that trip.

 

I believe that the 5600+ mile trip we just returned from, the best mileage we saw was 31 and that was keeping it under 80 on the open road. Over 90 the gas disappears quickly!
Unless your using the recommended fuel grade and staying under 65mph on the road and you let the car breakin abit more your mileage will stay about the same.
Where are you checking your mileage from?? I have noticed that if during a trip I key in the "INFO" button on the lower panel and then "Mileage" you'll see a difference from the MID display. Also, do you zero out the trip mileage after a fuel fillup, I think the combined mileage is a higher MPG calculation then if you zero.


Anyone confirm this..

 

I'm not in the car right now, but if memory serves, when you go to trip computer from the Info button, you have to change to the secondary screen to see current mileage. Current mileage should jibe with the MID.

Mine is set up so the "A" resets with a fill up, and "B" is the current trip.
Drove from Magic Mountain to LAX yesterday and got 35.0 at an avg spd of about 70mph

By the way, if you can check MPG from LAX to Magic Mountain, it will be less than 35 because of its uphill, I guess...

 

Yup, a few mpg less, but still over 30..That 35 is the best I have gotten so far on a trip less than 75 miles. Can't wait to get out on the open road with this thing!!

I dunno, but you have to wonder. My RLX was getting close to the sticker mpg right out of the showroom.

It's creeping up a bit, too.

I noticed that the lifetime average has moved up a little bit, to 25.9 mpg.

 

I had a short trip yesterday mostly on freeway so I reset the trip meter when I started. Averaged 34 mpg for the trip (about 20 miles) going mostly 70mph.
I would have never come close to that in my RL

 

Same here getakey. I am very impressed with the mileage this car gets. I run mostly 91 and 93 octane and have over 1800 miles now.

 

About 7800 miles so far, and I have overall mileage in the high 27's, with highway mileage regularly well over 30. I am thrilled so far.
