Cylinder Mangement
The RLX has a program to reduce the energy being used or expended while driving. This reduction should help with gas usage and provide better MPG.
How are we to determine whether the Cylinder Management has started to shut down a number of cylinders? or is in operation??
I am preparing to take a 6000 mile trip and would be very interested in understanding how and when it operates.
I would think that there have to be a number of variances to meet before activation, i.e.;
1. Must be in Drive Mode (not Sport)?
2. Maybe be at a sustained RPM for a certain quantity of time?
3. Load Variables?
4. Is there a reduction in RPM, when in operation??
These are some of the thoughts I have, Would like to hear some from other users..What do you think?
How and when do we know its in operation? I would not be to keen to have to wait 500 miles during fill-ups to have a clue..

1. I would think this is logical although I cannot confirm this from any training we've received.
2. I don't believe the system is RPM dependent, most likely it is load dependent
3. See above
4. Generally Acura has done everything they can to make sure that you cannot tell when the system engages. However, it's probably safe to say that once you achieve a steady state cruising speed, the system is primed to engage. The active noise cancellation works to remove any uneven exhaust pulses that come from running on three cylinders and the motor mounts do the same.
I would be interested to know if you can see a sudden change in the MID if you leave it set to instantaneous miles per gallon. This might be the best place to watch.

Glad to hear about the 34mpg that gives me a feeling of satisfaction.
Nice to get these subjects out there so everyone can feel confident about their decision to purchase the RLX..

ScottBjorn3D, how is your fuel mileage around town?

Intermediate
27-29 mpg. My wife drives it 50 miles to work and 50 miles back each day. Of that drive 5 miles is in heavy red light to red light stops. When ever I go to fill it up its say 30.x mpg. I can drive it around town after filling it up on a weekend she is off and it is between 27-29

Wow! Glad to hear the 27 mpg number. That is considerably better mileage numbers than my 2006 RL. Does anyone know how much lighter the RLX is than the RL? I am guessing it is at least 300 pounds lighter than my 2006 RL having SH-AWD.

Actually they're closer than you think. The old cars were ~4000-4080 and the new cars are 3933 for the base. Compared to the 2006, 6AT, direct injection, vcm all play a role in improved efficiency.
