Accelleration Problem???

I've got about 500 miles on her and, Has anyone noticed a hesitation upon accelerating from idle?? and then a surge, like over compensating... Usually I notice it upon the first start of the day when she isn't completely warmed up yet.
I am starting to notice it more frequently???

Are there any Acura Maintenance Notices???

I have to reset my ECU on my '10 about every few months because the mapping gets used to my uneventful driving style - very methodical. Prior to resetting I get clues on when it needs to be done, such as what you are experiencing. The RLX may be different than the RL, most likely is. For my RL I turn ignition key to position 1 (not completely on), jam gas pedal to the floor and hold for 30 seconds in that position; release gas pedal and turn ignition to off.

A lot of cars will idle faster than normal when they are first started. With an automative transmission, if you put the car in gear right away, the faster than normal idle can result in a "jerk" or "jump" because of the slightly increased engine speed.
Just my two cents as I've experience this phenomenon with various vehicles.

I see this sometimes on my TL when it is cold. Seems these motors want be at full operating temp before they prvide crisp throttle response.

For all the reasons already mentioned, I typically let my warm up to operating temp before driving off, even with it being a brand-new car. I've got 2000+ on mine already (bought it at a dealership in FL and I live in Atlanta, GA...so the drive home added roughly 500 miles off the bat).

Also, don't forget "Sport" mode. When engaged the throttle response is insane. Very snappy, very aggressive....meaning she goes...and I do mean go....

Many modern engines with all the sensors need to be at a certain temp before they will talk to the ECU. So if cold the car may jump or hesitate some till warmed up. My RLX has never done it yet but my 2013 Camaro SS has to warm up a few minutes before she does note buck or hesitate alittle.

I have tried the Sport Mode...Wow! If the Sport Mode was tied to the suspension the car would perform like a rocket!

I have found when in sport mode and using the shift levers there are only 5 gears to go through. Now, my salesman did state to me that in sport mode the suspension does stiffen up.

At first I noticed the same thing on mine, but after some more use on the highway, I noticed that Sport mode has some type of limiter when used in conjunction with the manual paddles. It will not let you shift ahead "early" unless you are within a specific RPM range for the next gear. So in the case of getting into 6th gear manually while in Sport mode, you have to be going fast enough in 5th to get it to shift into 6th.

And yes, Sport mode engages both higher response on the engine and changes the suspension handling to be a bit stiffer. For me it's the difference of a light "plush" feeling when disengaged, versus a tighter endurance sport feeling when engaged. I love it. When engaged it makes my RLX feel alot more like my old 06 TL 6-speed manual did. Snappy and nimble.

There might be a placebo effect here. There is no active component to the suspension in Sport mode. Steering response (ratio as I understand), Steering effort, Throttle mapping, and Transmission mapping are the things that Sport changes. I'm not finding any references to PAWS, but I'd guess this system is more aggressive when in sport. It is likely that Agile Handling Assist parameters are also affected.

^^ Thanks Colin,
That helps me better understand the placebo effect which I among others have really enjoyed when in the "Sport" position. I do wish it was linked in to the suspension as my Mit 300GT VR4 was, that was a rocket..

Just slipping into the drivers seat gives me a great exhilaration and that's before putting the shifter in D...

I hope I didn't ruin it!

Interesting, I've noticed that when engaged, going over a "bump" (of any size) feels completely different when Sport mode is engaged versus not engaged. I actually did it several times today and asked my wife and my son if they noticed a difference and said they did. But that doesn't mean we all weren't feelin the placebo effect

The car just feels stiffer and has a much more stiffer "bounce" when Sport mode is engaged.

But like you said, there is no reference to "suspension" changes in the owner's manual. All it states is that engine performance and handling are changed. Would be good to get more concrete details on it.

If handling is changing then the suspension is being changed.

Most likely it's the PAWS being more aggressive in it's operation. Also, I didn't mention it but there is also Agile Handling Assist that may run an alternate, more active program in Sport mode.

you guys are describing the effect of the 2007 MDX sport suspension that they tuned down on the 08+ due to mother's complaining it was "too stiff"......I keep mine in sport mode 95% of the time.....there will not be a unique system offered like in the 2007 MDX sport.......Just an fyi....we must of been the test mule for the PAWS system on the new RLX......
