Sounds like the car somehow got in VALET mode. That locks the trunk, and glovebox. I believe it will also lock out your address book.

Was the little red light on?

Page 185-186 of the RLX Owner's Manual.

But it requires a PIN, so unless you previously entered a PIN, I dunno how VALET Mode was activated?

You can lock the glove box, trunk, and/or
navigation system, entering a PIN code from
the On Demand Multi-Use DisplayTM.
To lock:
1. Select Shortcuts.
2. Select Valet.
3. Select the item you want to be PINprotected
from the locked area, then select
OK.
■Valet Mode 1Valet Mode
If you need to give the key to someone else, lock the
cover in the rear center seat-back first, and give the
keyless access remote without a built-in key as a valet
key.
2 When You Cannot Open the Trunk P.522

4. The previous code is displayed. Select OK.
u You will receive a confirmation message
on the display. Select OK.
When you enter the PIN code for the first time
or if you want to change the code:
1. Select Shortcuts.
2. Select Valet.
3. Select the item you want to be PINprotected
from the locked area, then select
OK.
4. Enter your selected four-digit PIN code,
then select OK.
5. You will be asked to enter the same fourdigit
PIN code again. Enter, then select OK.
u You will receive a confirmation message
on the display. Select OK.
To unlock:
1. Select Valet.
2. Select Unlock.
3. Enter the four-digit PIN code you have
previously selected, then select OK.
1Valet Mode
The PIN code entering screen also appears when you
press:
• The glove box open button
• The trunk release button on the driver's door, on
the trunk, or on the remote
While the glove box or the trunk is PIN-protected.
If you have locked all the items of the locked area, the
PIN code entering screen appears with the power
mode in ACCESSORY.
You can cancel the valet mode when you manually
open the trunk.
2 When You Cannot Open the Trunk P. 552
If you have only set Navi, Phone, Audio PINprotected
but forgot your four-digit PIN code, you
need to go to a dealer to have the set valet mode
reset.

There is an emergency trunk release handle in behind the rear seat armrest if you need to get into the trunk before your dealer has a chance to look into the problem.

That is page 522 'When you cannot open the trunk'. However this only applies to PAWS models as Sport Hybrids do not have a passthrough.

The trunk release is in the same spot on the SH.

Coolios! I never looked. *running to garage*

So I just did. And I find an AMAZING DISCOVERY!

.... the rear seat armrest folds down!

So to qualify: Both models have the manual key / manual trunk release. BUT the PAWS model also has a pass through to the trunk space.

Thanks for correcting me on that.

Wholly Smokes Batman! I did not know there was a pass through! Not that I would use it. I never looked.

No passthrough in the Sport Hybrid (Batteries preclude that). Only the PAWS has a passthrough. But BOTH models have a manual key & trunk release mechanism behind the rearseat armrest.

Sorry I confused the matter.

So if getakey did not activate the VALET mode...

the fault occurred in the communication between the 'Keyless Access Control Unit' and the 'MCU'. Per that diagram, there is some communication link there that does not require the VALET mode to be activated via 'Audio Navigation Unit'.

Now what that is?

The other less likely possibility is that something was in the trunk when it was last closed and it got "caught" or pinched into the latch thus physically precluding the electronic latch opener from opening the trunk. That is why I suggested to use the remote trunk opening latch (and maybe a simultaneous physical tug up on the trunk lid by a helper) to see if that would open the trunk for a visual inspection of the latch mechanism and/or removal of the trunk monkey. As I said, the less likely scenario.

Is your wiener dog being uncooperative as well???

It's a conspiracy between the trunk monkey, wiener dog and the little red light.

On a side note: I wish valet mode had an option to disable "sport mode" also besides the trunk, the glove box and navi/audio.
That would have been nice to have, so no valet drivers can punch it in sport mode and do donuts in the parking lot or whatever...
