Am I the only one who wonders how easily this could be fitted to a regular FWD RLX Advance?
I mean, you know...nothing's really connected with levers and mechanical connections anymore, anyway....

^^ I am sure many would agree with you. This new trend of not only removing manual transmission, and now shifters is freaking many people. Acura is not alone in this....The baby Mercedes went with this flimsy lever of the steering column and I didn't like that either. There is something about driving and holding on to the gear knob....automatic or manual.

To (finally) get back to George's question, I don't think any of is equipped to answer it. In fact, I still assume there is some kind of physical connection between the shift knob and the transmission, but I don't really know that.
Either way, I suspect it would be a pretty big job to do away with all the gearshift mechanism and replace it with electronics.

Some people have asked whether it would be "livable" long term. Personally, I don't think it'd bother me either way.
One day it just occurred to me that the gear shift lever in the RLX is probably not connected to anything below the console and the gear shift lever is really just a switch.
I have to agree with other folks that a lever is still my preferred way of shifting -- taking the mechanicals out of cars is definitely 'different' but for me it's just another thing to break. I bet that assembly is $600-$700 alone.

If he is a friend of yours, my best advice is to have you keep him away from me. I have so many issues, that by the time he would be done treating me, he'd be the one needing help *lol*
My question is.... if these are only switches, why put them here? Prime realestate on the center console could be used for something else. I guess we are all used to shifters being here since they migrated 'from the column' to the center console. But they could have been placed on the dash somewhere where they would not be vulnerable to random presses or coffee/soda spills.
Its true, nothing is connected with levers and mechanical connections anymore but what has replaced it is far more complex and secretive (unless you have access to the electrical schematics). Don't want to discourage you from doing this, but it is not plug and play and probably will take a long long time to figure out the harness.
PS. I hope the Acura Quality Assurance people have tested how that console reacts when it comes to contact with a double-double

I just looked at the parts diagram, there is a shifter cable that runs from the gear shift selector to the transmission. The RLX sport hybrid will be a completely electronic shift selector set up. Sorry, but the ability to swap shifter styles is not possible.
Thank you for checking!
