Lightbulb VTEC Oil Control Solenoid…..

Hey group….the guy who does my warranty maintenance on my RDX is the same guy I took my Mazdaspeed 3 when I owned it. Last oil change he told me that I have an oil leak near my timing gear/valve cover and I should take it back to Acura as it is under the powertrain warranty. So, I took it back to Acura of Tempe where the excellent Service Manager Abel fixes me up.

Turns out it was the VTEC Oil Control Solenoid that was leaking oil. I don’t know if it was defective or just a leak. Anyway, 4 hours later they returned my car saying all is good. Yes, it was warranty. So, something to look out for when you take your car in or if you do your own changes to inspect for on the engine.

Blessings!

Thanks for the heads up!

odd tho! often times, it's the gasket that fails that leads to leaks. Wondering what Honda changed. wondering why the gasket failed.

This was an issue on 2G CR-V's too. How is this still an issue?

Do you know the location of it? On the K24 in the CR-V, it was on the rear passenger side of the head.

I have a really rough idle and have suspected this was the issue for a while. OP: did what alerted your tech to the problem?

Rough idle usually is related to vacuum, fuel, or ignition. The solenoid oil leak is literally oil leak around where the solenoid is. The symptom is nothing new, it is a well known source of oil leak on higher mileage K24.
