2020 ASPEC 900miles. Manufactured Oct 2019
noticed that the area on the struts above the rotor is super rusty. Just have this car not even a month. Doesn’t seem to cause any issue right now, but just worried that it may break sometime unknown. I checked the another RDX I found at the parking lot. It has the same rust.
After seeing this thread checked my RDX 2020 A-spec which has less than 600 miles on it that was purchased a couple of weeks ago (Feb'20 Build Date). I was shocked to see the rust on both sides as well. This basically reminded me of an aftermarket uncoated Wearever brake caliper/brackets that I purchased from Advanced Auto a long time ago which was installed on my old TL. Two days after putting the uncoated calipers on my TL, I remember the caliper/bracket was covered with surface rust "exactly" like the lower part of the struts on our new RDX. I would like to know if any other 2019 & 2020 RDX owners with the "non-A-spec" Trim can confirm if their struts looks like this as well. Thanks!
This is normal, there are several threads on this, please search before creating a new thread on the same topic
You mean like the recurrently metastatic threads on engine oil, raising/lowering, infotainment updates, or Tesla ( couldn't resist... ). For shame.
As to the (non)issue at hand, normal surface rust on a cast iron part. Looks bad, feels fine.
But since brakes were mentioned, on this car the rotors have an FNC coating, so they are somewhat resistant to flash rust. And the brake calipers are aluminum, so they won't rust, but steel brake dust from the rotors can coat the calipers, and that will rust.
