Rotating sound with decelerating
Rotating sound with decelerating
Just wanted to share a quick story about my RDX for those who may have similar issues.
I bought my 2019 Acura RDX Tech a couple weeks ago (only around 200 miles on it). After driving it for a day, i started to hear a light rotating sound coming from the back rear of the car when I let off the gas. I thought it was a bad wheel bearing at first so I took it into the dealership to investigate. They found the rotating sound coming from the rear differential. After keeping the car for a day, they found no metal in the differential fluid but the sound was definitely present. They suspected a bad bearing inside the assembly after calling Acura engineering (tech line). So they ended up replacing the entire rear differential. I was pissed! A day later they called me an told me that they replaced the rear differential (fixing the sound issue) and that they would give me $1K in free accessories for my poor initial experience. The car now drives smooth with no rear rotating sounds in the back. They installed some new accessories for me too which was awesome.
Even though this issue was a big pain... I do appreciate Acura's customer service and understanding around this issue.
Hope this helps anyone who might have similar issues.

I'm getting a noise this morning that I suspect is the rear differential/transaxle. A noise that indicates it is a rotational component. Thought it was a stuck brake calibre but it still made the noise after I stopped.
Today is the coldest the car has been since I bought it.

Yikes. I heard a whirring/grinding sound from the rear after a cold start during our recent arctic blast ( I think it was about -20°F at the time ), but it went away after about 10 minutes of driving and hasn't returned.
I've owned lots of 4WD/AWD vehicles and it's not uncommon to hear a bit of a whirring sound from the drivetrain, but this noise was pretty shrill. Un-lubricated bearing came to mind at the time. I only stopped once during the event, and I can't remember if the noise continued.
IIRC there are electric hydraulic pumps in the rear diff with this latest flavor of SH-AWD. Those might continue to spin with the vehicle stopped, but the rest of the diff doesn't.
I'm pretty sure the fuel pump will continue to turn with the vehicle stopped ( but engine running ). I assume there's a low-pressure pump in the tank in addition to the high-pressure direct-injection fuel pump near the engine. (?)
Any of these potential problems should be covered under the 6 year/ 70,000 mile powertrain warranty.

It didn't sound much like the brake-loving pebbles I've attracted in the past, but at -20°F my curiosity was somewhat blunted.
