Road trip gremlins
Just finished a trip up to WI in the new RDX for a few days at the lake and came home with a few gremlins to report:
1. Tried to cancel a nav search and it froze the nav system. Audio still played on the secondary screen but I couldn't switch it to the main screen or get control of the nav system again until I stopped the car and shut everything down. Worked fine after restart but not great when you're relying on the nav for directions.
2. Driving after a rain and started getting a parking sensor warning that something was very close to the front left corner. Went away as my speed increased but would return each time I slowed to a near stop/stop. Got out and checked for anything stuck to the car but it was all clear. This kept happening until I shut the car down completely and worked fine after restart.
3. Automatic wipers started working as i drove on the highway on a clear day. I could turn them off but returning the switch to auto brought the back to life each time. Once again, turning the car completely off seemed to fix it.
Aside from these system gremlins, the car was great to drive and my gas mileage was about 26mpg on 87 octane. Just wish they had spent as much time on the technology components as they did driving dynamics. Never had a car that needed reboots as much as this one.

item 2: why do you drive with the parking sensors on? I only activate them when needed for tight parking jobs.
item 3: the manual states that drivers should turn off the wipers, from the auto position, when there is no rain. Could be a bug hitting the sensor area triggering the wiper causing the issue.
Item 2: I drive in a area where I have tight alleys and corners to navigate on a regular basis. The sensors are invaluable for this so they stay on so they can do their job and warn me of obstacles that might be hidden by the RDX's hood. If you don't need them regularly, by all means, turn them off. Dealer checked the system and couldn't recreate the problem but tested all of the sensors and found them to be in spec and fine to be left on.
Item 3: When you buy a car with automatic rain sensing wipers, having to turn them on when it rains is asinine and defeats the purpose of the technology. My dealer said the notice in the manual was puzzling and probably legalese but there is no reason to disable the wipers unless you're cleaning the windshield or going through a carwash. Certainly could have been a bug but the sensor area seemed clear when I checked and the problem fixed itself after shut down/start up cycle.
If you like turning off the automatic features of your car and making them manual features, go right ahead, knock yourself out.

I had pretty good luck with the routes that the Nav system chose in both the country and small towns on the trip. Around Chicago, it's hit or miss and definitely not as good as using Google Maps on the phone. Another reason to get Android Auto up and running on the RDX.

Sorry if my questions rubbed you the wrong way. Have a good day.

If you don’t use carplay, don’t do USB music. I have found XM or bluetooth streaming to be OK. If you use the nav, and want to cancel the route, use the voice command ‘cancel route’.

This car does not multitask. It will do two things at once, like show the maps and play music as long as you don’t press your luck.
I suggest you not overload the system. Let it fully boot. If you use Car Play, don’t mess with the music by changing sources or looking for playlists while things are running.
