Panoramic roof maintenance gone wrong?

Hi all,

Relative newb here with my first Acura (though it’s my 11th vehicle manufactured by Honda Motor Company). I’ve had a horrid rattle in my panoramic moonroof and decided to lubricate all the seals I could. It seemed to help however upon opening and closing the roof several times afterwards I heard what sounded like a pin snap. Does anyone know if something could’ve been knocked out of place by my lubrication attempt to quell roof noise? Am I screwed?

Thanks,
Steve

If you had a bad rattle, there was likely something already less than optimal and that may have caused the snap sound. It's hard to see how lube would cause a mechanical fault in any case. You'd only be screwed if the lube could be proved as a cause of a problem, which is a hard place to get to. Take it for service.

Thanks all - I used RV 3 in 1 rubber care. Went around all the seals inside and on top of the roof. In parts where two seals were present I got in between them the best I could with the lube. Rattle is gone. Now I’m afraid to open the roof again- lol

AFAIK there is nothing in that track it would have been possible for you to displace, IF the darn thing was assembled and functioning as intended. Lubing the seals is appropriate, and I seem to remember a TSB that recommended that on some recent Honda/Acura vehicle, but I think they use a special lube.

Maybe the stupid thing snapped into place after the lube job. Does everything seem to be sitting flush with it closed?

There's also this TSB for 2019s:

Thank you, seems to be ok as of now. Hoping it stays that way and that the horrid noises don’t come back. I was unaware of the special lubricant but will definitely check it out. Stay safe out there!

I think this is the lube Honda recommends for the rubber seals.
