How can you bear to let her drive any vehicle? I mean, an emergency can happen at any time, if you don't have the confidence that she can handle whatever comes, perhaps she shouldn't be driving at all.

You’re very observant as emergencies can arise. At any time. That’s not the point.

There always has to be one. I guess you’re it.

Sounds like it was a legit question you took offense to.
There is definitely always an inquisitive person and she does appear to be it though!

Sorry to resurrect this thread. But I had the same thing happen to me yesterday. Went to pass a car on the interstate after driving for 200 miles and the check engine light started flashing and went into limp mode. After I pulled over and tried to get going again the car wouldn’t go faster than 10 mph so I had it towed to a Acura dealership.
Did anyone get any news for a fix?
I have a 2019 Advance with 3K miles

it's just like going to the doctor with symptoms...the doctor doesnt know until he tests for things.
have you been using 91+ octane fuel from a tier 1 station?

Yep. I watched the dealer put 93 in it when I first bought it. It’s sitting at a dealership that doesn’t open til later this morning. I was hoping someone had some insight into what was going on.
Btw wasn’t impressed with Acura’s roadside asisstance. They don’t provide any type of car so I had to get a rental car to continue my road trip.

If you turn off car, turn back on, it will work again with no problems. No need for tow job. You need to call corporate, and open a case number on this. It needs to be documented. I recently got my car back from them. Same thing happened, but they get no codes. They try to resimulate it, but with my car they couldn't. There was not any codes in system either. This happened to me 2 times, and they got the car right after it happened for the second time. Im still waiting for this to happen again, and we are under a verbal agreement that I record it, just so they can see it too. The more people who call into corporate who are having this problem, the more they will try to fix this. Corporate with then set you up with an appointment directly with a dealer and they track any findings.

just like the doctor; no one knows until it gets diagnosed...and even then, it can get diagnosed incorrectly.

I second this. Tried to use Acura Roadside Assistance a couple months back. I initiated a call. After not hearing back for an hour I called them back only to be told they couldn't get a tow for me, as no truck was available. (In Los Angeles??) 1) Thanks for not informing me. 2)Somehow my insurance company (who I have redundant roadside assistance through, thank goodness) was able to find a truck. Strange how that works...

Just drove back to the dealership today and they informed me the engine misfired. They have the codes it threw and sent them off to Acura. Unfortunately they won’t let me drive the car home and have no loaners. So right now I’m paying for a rental.
The bad thing is the dealership is 2 and half hours from home 🙄

Have you/anyone found a solution for this issue? It happened to me twice this weekend in my Advance SH-AWD. Both time I was doing about 75 mph with ACC on. I went to accelerate and the car lost all power to the peddle and the check engine light came on. I managed to make it to the side, turned off the engine, and turned it right back on and the car seemed to run normally. The events were 3 days apart. I took it to the dealer today and they state the car didn’t throw any codes and they can’t reproduce. They are keeping it overnight to do more diagnosis tomorrow. I’ve read the thread above and can state the battery was charged, I’ve got about 2000 miles on it, and use 91 octane non-ethanol Top Tier fuel. Frustrating….

I finally heard back from the dealership. An Honda rep came down and I was told they inspected the cylinders, coils, ignition stuff, etc and everything was fine. The issue was the wire harness wasn’t connected properly to the engine? I think that’s what I was told. I’m picking the car up on Thursday so I’ll know more. I was told the rep documented the issue, so maybe it’s more widespread than just my car. Who knows!
Btw cylinder 1 misfired.

KK689 - I would be very interested in getting specifics from you once you pick up the car on what exactly it was. I'm getting the feeling my dealership isn't getting anywhere with the problem...

On the paperwork it says the car threw a DTC code for a cylinder 1 misfire, and the cylinder 1 harness wasn’t fitted properly

interesting; a friend is a honda tech and gets Honda Civic type-R's in all day every day for replacement of engine harness.

Interesting; I'll try to get more info from my friend. He's on this board as well. @MC MiYoung3269

If you take a look at his Instagram, you'll see many type-r's in for engine harness replacement

Limp mode hit me tonight. Similar situation as others report: on interstate about 70 mph, hit the gas to get past another car, and it just lost power and the engine light started blinking. Pulled over to shoulder, shut it down, restarted, and it was fine after that. I have over 8000 miles and have driven many highway miles, but this is the first time this happened. Advance in Comfort mode with 93 octane gas.

Limped mode Thanksgiving travel... same as everyone else while trying to overtake at 70MPH. 7xxx Miles on advance in comfort. Also 93 Octane gas. Such a bummer to have this in my mind now every time want to pass someone. Not sure how I will feel or should feel about one lane road overtaking.

Y’all are driving too damn aggressive, take the cinderblock off the gas pedal 😂

seriously though, I hope it’s not a serious flaw. At least you know the engine won’t blow up in your efforts to pass on the outside of turn 4.

Going in on Wednesday, but the previous posts suggest that no codes will be found.

As suspected, no codes found. I almost would have rather they found something. Now I’m just waiting for it to happen again and hope I don’t get rear-ended by a truck.

Just to keep everyone up-to-date, after Limp Mode hit me, and after the dealer found nothing, I did open a ticket with Acura, as this is a very serious safety issue if Limp Mode hits you with a truck on your tail. Instead of getting back to me in "3 business days" after I opened the ticket, It took 12 days for Acura CR to get back to me, and yesterday they asked for a copy of my repair order from the dealer, which showed no codes returned.

Subscribed, plan to get a RDX in a few months for the wife and want to keep track of the reports of this issue and possible dealer solution once they figure out root cause.

It happened again last night to my “fixed” car. Floored the car to go around a vehicle and the check engine light flashed and I lost all power. It was fun getting across two lanes of interstate traffic while losing speed. This is making me consider trading the car in. Going to drop it off at the dealership today.

To add on to my previous post, it seems like it only happens to me after driving for an extended period of time. This time I was driving for about two hours at that point when it happened again. I have no issue around town

maybe don’t floor it? Maybe use the paddle
shifters and downshift then pass? Don’t blame
the car because you feel the need to aggressively drive and it’s preventing you from blowing it up.

Sorry, but that is an extremely unhelpful response. If the car can’t handle the throttle being depressed, we have some issues

Agreed. This is a serious issue that puts lives in danger every time it happens. To blame this on user error is completely asinine.

it can handle depressing it, but mashing it to the floor at 80mph on the freeway because you need to pass someone is another story. It’s preventing you from blowing the engine. Maybe a 6 speed mustang GT is more to your driving taste?

You had mentioned you were using higher octane fuel, and now there is evidence of a possible heat soak from the long drive. Can I ask what the ambient temperature was when this happened?
BTW we wish you the best of luck in solving this dangerous condition. Please be safe as you work through this.

Thanks. The temp was in the upper seventies at the time. Working with the dealership now, they will call the technical helpline when they open back up on Thursday. I’ll update as I get more information

Almost every instance I have read here about this has been people feeling the need to pass someone while already doing 70+. I don’t know where everyone lives but most highways I drive are 70 speed limit tops. The need to mash down the pedal to pass anyone is rare. It’s aggressive driving and probably just as unsafe as the car going into limp mode anyway.

im not making light of the fact that it’s an issue and scary and yes could have very bad results, but I do question why people feel the need to drive so aggressively. Maybe I’m sensitive to it being in Delaware where hundreds die every year on rt 1 as a result of people doing 80-90+ on roads that are limited at 65 which is honestly still too fast given the volume of traffic and the lack of barriers in the medians.

Sorry if if I offended anyone or made you feel like your issue isn’t serious.

Precision Crafted Performance

I think that puts the "don't drive it so hard" argument to rest.

So if we're done victim blaming, maybe we can get back to documenting the conditions under which this defect manifests itself. Thanks.

Many places have speed limits over 70 (up to 85 in TX).

Therefore, a person driving 70 in an area where flow of traffic is 80+ would definitely warrant overtaking, and would be considered standard driving conditions.

There is no need to excuse or rationalize the flaw - this is an inexcusable issue that is dangerous.

Yup...agreed.

The car has a govenor-limited top speed of 113mph. So the excuse that it's "shutting itself down to protect itself" at 70-80mph is pretty far-fetched.

Also, let's not forget this car has an automatic transmission. If the car was programmed to "protect itself from damage" at higher accelerations it would up-shift. If not, than again...it's a design flaw...not user error.
