So yeah, I live in Houston and do not have a garage to park in... when we were working at the office I always had a garage to park in but since March my car has been parked in the street. Last week went to the store and noticed my HUD was blurry in the middle, I tried moving it up and down and the blur kinda just shifted. Well it looks like from the outside of the car the screen is burned! I haven't gotten around to getting in contact with Acura dealership just yet but wanted to give everyone a heads up you really might want to get that windshield cover sooner rather than later!
Does anyone have one they recommend? Or just go get the OEM one?
Before you do anything drastic, I would suggest you check the physical HUD. What you are seeing is a reflection of the projection. The "projector" is a flat, recessed area in the dashboard in front of the steering wheel. You might want to just see if polishing it clears up the blur. It is unlikely that the HUD "melted," or else the rest of your car also would have (unless you deliberately focused the sun's rays on it with a parabolic lens).
Here is a pic from a few minutes ago. Also of note, you can read the text in the little screen from outside the car fine... so maybe the cover that displays it actually did melt? IDK but I did try cleaning it, and the windshield to no effect.
As most of your regulars know, I live in Arizona. We have had the hottest spring and summer (so far) on record...Over 100 F for literally months now.. IF the heat was an issue, there would be cars all over AZ, NV, NM, Texas, parts of CA with melted parts.
Well if it didn't melt what do you think? It's brown / discolored and looks warped. As noted, the little screen under the cover looks fine. I think the clear housing did get heat damaged? Either way I'll let the dealership take a look at it in near future.
I've also had an issue a couple times where the car gets stuck in a low gear coming out of the auto stop bullshit.
As most of the regulars know, I live in Arizona, where it has been over 100 F for months. They say it is the hottest spring and summer in recorded history here. If this heat isn't melting plastics in cars, I doubt this is what caused your issue. Not 100% sure, as there have been issues where the reflection from a window or the glass on a high rise office building has an done some damage, if the right conditions exist.
I use a CoverCraft for my RDX and it fits very well, so I would recommend it. I can see the brown area in your photo, but I seriously don't think it's sun damage. It may be something else. My car has been in over 100 degree heat and mine is parked outside (unfortunately) and it's totally fine.
Also, just buy it direct from the manufacturer (I did that before they had a 3rd Gen RDX one out from Acura). The last time I looked, the Acura one had a cheezy "ACURA" written in large letters on it, but it was for 2nd Gen Acuras, so they may have changed it.

^no harm, we are speaking of windshield covers! it's just odd that you would show a pic of your headlight! thus why I thought you were in the wrong thread.
Do you have the covercraft acura branded windshield cover?

No problem.
I DO like a variety of their products (Covercraft). Nice to know of a new automotive source. I put them on my fav list.
BTW: note the bold text (post 13): ""Also, just buy it direct from the manufacturer (I did that before they had a 3rd Gen RDX one out from Acura). The last time I looked, the Acura one had a cheezy "ACURA" written in large letters on it, but it was for 2nd Gen Acuras, so they may have changed it".
Sometimes it helps all posters to view a variety of threads.

Windshields offer the most sun protection, according to an executive at Pittsburgh Glass Works in Pennsylvania. His company supplies glass to nearly every major automaker, including Toyota, Mercedes-Benz, General Motors, BMW and Hyundai. By law, windshields must be made of laminated glass, which means they're formed from three parts: two 2.1-millimeter layers of glass separated by a 0.8-millimeter piece of stretchy plastic. The glass is made to break easily if something – the driver's head, for example, or a deer – comes in contact with it. The plastic then stretches to absorb that impact.
The layer of plastic helps windshields absorb nearly all of the sun's ultraviolet rays. Plastic is naturally good at absorbing UV rays, and can be made with extra UV absorbers to protect even more. The Pittsburgh Glass Works exec says windshields absorb 100 percent of UVB rays (which cause sunburn), and around 98 percent of UVA rays. Those UVA rays don't cause sunburn but can do long-term damage to the skin. That built-in protection gives windshields a sun protection factor - or SPF - of 50 or more, the equivalent of some of the strongest sunscreens.
May all be true, but I noticed the dash temperature dropped considerably on my '16 ILX. It also reduced glare.
UV blocking isn't the same as heat rejection (aka solar energy rejection). Tint will reject heat and block UV, but the latter is mostly unnecessary as the laminate glass itself already blocks UV.
Did you ever get a solution for this from Acura? Our three week old 2020 did the same thing over the weekend.

Quick Update - Talked to Acura last week and as soon as I mentioned it the tech let me know it is a known issue and ordered replacement parts. Got it replaced today. As far as I can tell, the plastic cover can melt / burn.
