"Collision Mitigation Braking System Problem. See Your Dealer"

Dozens of 2018 Accord owners have reported this issue including myself. A few claimed that their vehicles braked unexpectedly when this message appeared. One owner posted pictures of Accord after it got struck from the rear after she claims the car braked suddenly for no reason. My Accord never braked, but I did receive this message four times during the 4,000 miles I owned it. When this message appears, the adaptive cruise control, "regular" cruise control, and collision mitigation braking system stop working for the remainder of the ignition cycle. Restarting the vehicle clears the error until the next occurrence.

This morning on my way to work, I was following a vehicle in the left lane while using the adaptive cruise control. While moving to the right lane, this message appeared and my RDX braked hard causing an approaching driver in the right lane to brake and swerve to avoid a collision. There was no vehicle ahead in the right lane. Just like in the Accord, the cruise control would no longer set and the CMBS feature stopped working. The error cleared after a restart.

Here's a thread on the Accord forum about the issue...

clearly no one is interested in your issue. Did you ever find resolution to this?

I’m currently at the dealer in regard to this issue. Was traveling on highway at high way speeds and suddenly car slams on brakes by itself . Dealer claims my front radar is misaligned and needs alignment and is a 4 hour job .

I, too, traded a '17 Ridgeline RTL-E (and an '18 Accord Sport 2.0T 10AT) for a 2019 RDX Advance in an attempt to consolidate. After 3.5 months of frustration, dissatisfaction, and disappointment, I traded back into a '19 Ridgeline RTL-E that's been an absolute pleasure.

It's interesting that Acura is just now fixing the CMBS/ACC issue in the RDX when the fix for the Accord was released four months ago.

I just had this happen in my '18 MDX TECH AWD. Scared the crap out of me and the guy behind me. On a congested highway at rush hour of course.

FYI, the NHTSA is looking into issues with Nissan and other cars as well. Recent local story here https://abc7chicago.com/government-i...blems/5553302/

I have filed a complaint on the NHTSA site regarding this experience. There are several other complaints about the CMBS being too sensitive when a vehicle in front turns off the road. There is only a couple similar to my issue.

Took to the dealer yesterday. Error code suggested radar needs to be replaced. Part is expected to arrive today. Hopefully, I get my car back this evening.

This is a serious issue, as my RDX braked at 80MPH in Wyoming when a semi was in the right lane and I was passing on the left. It detected an imminent collision. When it braked, everything in the rear of the vehicle was flung forward in the vehicle. I am very happy we were only drinking bottled water with the lids on as they flew out of the holder and hit the dash.

Took it to the dealer on return from vacation and they found nothing wrong and had no explanation. Two weeks later, it happened on a highway at 50MPH and the same result as they found nothing wrong.. The end result was this happened at least 5 times while owning the vehicle either driving in town or on the highway. It was so random that it was scary
