I also asked them if I brought in new brake pads if they would replace them and their response was they would but it would void the warranty if Acura comes out with any solutions for the issue in the future.

We tried to put in a case with Acura Relations and was told that after they talked to the dealer, since the dealer said that the brake squeal was "normal" that they wouldn't do anything, and that I could reach out to a different dealer if I wanted a second opinion. Very frustrating for a brand new $50k vehicle. We still like it but we've been extremely disappointed in the dealership and Acura's handling of everything that has come up since purchase. I wish I had read through these threads before we decided to buy an Acura, never again...
They need to apply the TSB if requested. Sometimes a dealer wants you to verbally state that you notice a “particular” concern, in this case, “hey my brakes are soft” so they can justify the update when that’s really the only reason you went into the dealership.

You aren’t voiding the “entire” warranty. What he was saying was, if you they put on your other brakes, and Acura approves a solution for the brake issue, they aren’t going to pull off your 3rd party brakes and put the new OEM’s back on. Your are kinda voiding the warranty on THAT issue according to them. You’d have to put your old pads back on if your want them replace the OEMs with new OEMs. Who would care at that point? Ha. I have 3rd party on mine. Dealer did it. Best thing I did so far.

Well...maybe they have. I have no brake squealing in my Nov. built Advance. I bet there are others who don't have brake squeal as well.

Is there a written procedure for resetting the e-bark after it has been retracted for a brake pad change?

I am not aware of any. When I change out the rear brake pads I retracted the caliber with a torx. Spin it clockwise then use a c-clap to push the piston in. Put in the new pads, start up the car and pump the brake pedal. After a few pump you can feel the pedal pressure. The e-brake will move into position.

Started on my pad swap tonight, mine has 7k miles, only did the rears as I only had a couple of free hours. I was able to install the Wagner ceramics, just barely, tight squeeze, but the dropped in with some persuasion, no parking brake disassembly needed.. Fronts will go in tomorrow. Then getting the TSB done on Friday am.

When I change my rear pads it was a very tight fit with only a little over 2k miles. I had to retract the e-brakes piston to get a new pad in.

I replaced front and rear pads a couple weeks ago. I bought the pads from Rockauto. Did you get the parts below? I got the Wagner ThermoQuiet one. I noticed a lot of brake dusk in the front wheel compare to the OE pads. Since my brake squeal is coming from the back only I am tempted to put the OE front pads back.

Yep those are the parts I bought, I completed the fronts last night. On my drive to the dealer to get the brake TSB done I noticed my brakes are still squealing, might just need some miles and bedding before they quiet down.

The issue of brakes squealing is normal in modern cars, unfortunately. Here's a Popular Mechanics article explaining why:

https://www.popularmechanics.com/car...queaky-brakes/

I always have squealing of my brakes first thing in the morning until the car warms up. The cause is a thin coat of rust from moisture overnight. As soon as it is ground off from your first few stops, the sound should stop. Obviously, this is different from prolonged and constant brake squealing.

Yes...that is normal and everyone knows that. The issues that folks are complaining about is the constant squealing well AFTER this has occurred.

I have this issue even when the car is warmed up. The squeal is constant when brakes are applied. It's a loud constant squeal at basically all speeds.

The dealer so far has told me Acura is working on a fix. I'm not sure if they're just going to keep waiting, or is there something that can be done? It's frustrating and embarrassing when I drive on the road.

I also have this issue when car is warm, my RDX has 1300 miles on it, and I just noticed the noise, mines was built on 2/2019, going to take it into the dealership this week to get the rotors replaced and see what happens.

Noisy brakes

This started happening to me intermittently as well. Only at 2600 miles and live in AZ where it's scorching hot so def not a weather thing. But every so often, the brakes start squealing, usually when the brakes are lightly applied. Will probably replace brake pads with after market as someone else suggested since it seems it's a Honda/Acura brake pad problem.

I wanted to do that for a long time but the RDX being a new model, nobody had aftermarket brake pads available until I found them at Rockauto. Acura Canada is still just waiting to resolve the problem......
I installed them and for a week now, no more noise! Absolutely quiet! And it's like really cold -20 degrees here in Montreal! Very happy about that, problem solved

Thanks. I realize the car is "new", but it's also a year old at this point. Surprised there aren't at least a few choices....brakes...rotors

Actually, it's been a few months since I posted this, and they started squealing 2 months after, not when cold but ramdomly.... Just like if the centric ceramic brake pads don't fit with the "new compound" in the disc brakes (they just don't rust, never seen that!)
I putted back the original pads for now and will probably order new pads (wagner thermoquiet). Acura still don't have any solutions, so I am experiencing some solutions..... to be continued.

I've had the Wagners for a while now. Always quiet and grip like a brake pad should. I wouldn't even want the software update on the brake issue at this point.

I dropped off my RDX for the same issue for the second time, dealer acknowledged the problem and advised me if I could live with the noise for a bit. They stated that Acura is working on a fix for this (new pads/rotors) for affected vehicles and will be installing them at no cost.

So there was no point installing a replacement OEM pads if they were going to squeal the same way. At least I know I'll have a new set of pads/rotors when the fix comes out, hopefully within the next 12 months or so.

The dealer is telling me this same answer for 10 months now....

2019 with 1200 miles and I have the dreaded grinding/noisy/squealing brakes. One thing I noticed that I didn't see mentioned in this thread is that if I use the brakes hard 2 or 3 times the noise goes away and the brakes are then completely silent. What started my issue is that I washed the car then didn't drive it for almost a week. Could the issue we are having be just the normal build up of surface rust on the rotors when it rains or the car is washed and then not used. I've have seen this with every car I have owned, just not as bad as the RDX.

Totally normal after letting a rotor sit after rain or a car wash as rust and impurities build up on the surface of the rotors. A few good brake cycles clears it right up!

Agree, just wondering if the folks who took their cars into the dealership to fix the problem tried hard braking first to see if it cleared up the noise. Normal driving doesn't require hard braking, you have to really make an effort to hit the brake hard,

The squeaky noise and harsh grabbing/rubbing noise on mine only happens when the brake is cold. Once warm up after a few miles of driving in city traffic, it no longer does it.

For me, after car wash, I would just drive around for a mile or two with some braking to clear the water.

Grinding Brakes on 2019 RDX

Noise finally went away after about 5,000 miles.

I'd wager this has less to do with mileage, and more to do with temperatures warming up. Mine still does this after 7,000 miles, but only in the early mornings before the weather warms.

Those who had dealer cooperation were lucky. Our brake growling never got any response other than "it's being looked into corporate". Luckily after around 5,000 miles the growling went away. Nothing changed in the meantime like moisture, temperature, etc. It just plain went away thank God.

Just came back from the a in Los Angeles area for the A1 service and they haven't heard about the fix. They did admit that they are aware of the squeaky brake.
They did apply the soft brake update. though.

The part number they replaced it with is the same one I had replaced with back in November and I still have the squeaky brake issue

SEE BELOW UPDATE!

Well I have to retract this statement. I now have 9K miles and the growling returned. If they don't change out my brake pads and rotors for quiet brakes I'm trading the POS. Enough is enough. I didn't pay 42K for a new car to be put through agony.

Just change your own pads. A number of us decided not to wait. Worked out fine. I know, you’ll prob just say “it’s the principal, and that I shouldn’t have to do it”. We get it and agree. Regardless, it solves the problem of the overly ridiculous alternative of you trading your car because of brake pads.

Apparently there are updated brake pad numbers now with A02. It looks like the brake squeal fix is rolling out!
