Bad seal on liftgate?

Has anybody ever gotten moisture getting past the seals on their liftgate? 2021 RDX.

If I recall, the rubber has some crevices and on mine some of the crevices have some rust-colored markings (very small amounts). However, I checked and there's no rust anywhere on the lift gate bottom in the area and it's never changed. I don't think it represents any leakage. What makes you think you have a problem?

Is your lift gate properly aligned, do you have wider gaps on one side than another? You should not get water in the cargo, water supposed to go through channels out. If you see water in cargo floor or interior trim, its not normal

Curious how you know moisture is getting past the seal?

Some time ago, someone had mentioned that their tailgate weather-strip had a gap at the bottom...Mine does,..it just looks un-finished, and of low quality...almost like the connected the 2 ends with electrical tape. I mentioned this at my last dealer visit and the advisor blew it off as normal. I didn't feel it was worth perusing a replacement w/s.

I haven't looked at mine recently, but if I recall the seal goes around the gate area and the two ends happen to lay at the bottom of the gate, by the lock. It doesn't look great - mine might have a small gap - but it's not something that I ever think about and there's nothing to indicate that it leaks. I mentioned in my wheel lock thread that I just discovered that my car jack was rusted, so I think that's the source of the small traces of rust color on my seal. (But that's not due to a leak, I think someone just threw a rusty car jack in there.) The rear hatch area is designed to drain outwards. If you hand wash your car, you will see this. With the hatch closed, there's a small gap at the top that allows water in. The water runs into channels on either side of the rear hatch to the bottom of the hatch area. This area constantly gets dirty, which I hate, because the water is dirty and then it drains out, leaving the dirt behind.

mine has the same gap, the dealer told me its normal also. I dont buy it, but it does not bother me and it will not cause moisture getting inside, purely cosmetic

Try using some black silicone to fill in the gap.

I looked closely at mine yesterday...I believe the gap is getting bigger.
I DO mind the gap!

I will bring it up again at my next visit.

I was told by service advisor its normal. Sounds specious, I will push them harder next time.

I don't think they're going to be able to extend the seal in any case. They could just loosen it somewhere to make the ends meet, but I think you'd ultimately create more problems.

Some people had it replaced under warranty with new one and gap is gone. But some advisors tell it’s normal and refuse to replace it. I think they all shrink over time.

Right. But I will still push for replacement next time I am at the dealer. Who knows when that will be with no place to go these days.

Let us know how it goes. Maybe also ask them to show you new RDXs to compare. I tried, but failed to get it replaced under warranty. Its not that big of gap for me to worry.
