Driving behind a vehicle my auto high beams flashed several times. They pulled over thinking I was trying to pass. Got to my destination and shut the car off. Then going home it started doing it again. Another car ahead pulled to the side letting me by. It was pitch dark so I don't know what was going on with the sensor. I just can't believe how many different issues I've had with this car in 1 month of ownership. I contacted corporate a few days ago and haven't gotten a response. I'm trying to wait for some 2020 models to come out because i'm done with Acura.

 

Just turn the Auto High Beam feature off. We haven't had any problems with it, but my wife doesn't like the vehicle making the high beam decision for her, so we disabled it. I actually don't miss it since operating the high beams helps to keep me alert on long drives in the middle of the night.

 

Are you aware the car has auto high beams? The car will determine if it is dark enough to turn on the high beams. If it senses enough light to think a car is approaching you from the opposite direction, in order to not blind them, it will automatically turn the brights off.

You can also adjust the sensitivity of the auto high beams. I would suggest adjusting it so that it doesn't come on and off as easily.

 

So the flashing occurs only when following another car, and it works normally when another car is approaching from the front?

The lights should dim when they see the taillights of a car in front, but as the owners manual explains, they may not respond properly if the road is bumpy or has many curves. In cases like this, the camera may lose visibility of the taillights of the car in front and turn on the high beams for a moment until the taillights become visible again.

As you get close to the other car in preparation for passing. the taillights of that car may actually drop out of site of the camera, and this contributes to the flashing.

 

sounds like you need to go into the settings and set the sensativity to be higher

 

I'll try that. I don't need someone ahead of me getting upset from continuously being flashed.

Exactly!! I don't know why we should should be complacent about the many things that could be fixed with software. The car has been out for over five months now. That is plenty of time for Acura to get us an update that would take care of the known problems.

 

The auto high beams in our Hyundai Sonata work flawlessly and never blind anyone... A cheaper car does it right and a luxury vehicle can't figure it out...

 

It could also be the windshield in front of the sensor is dirty which could adversely affect performance.

I've had no issues at all with the auto high beams on mine.

 

I've noticed when following a white or silver car the auto high beams flash them EVERY time. Clearly an issue with it if other cars can get this feature right.

 

Mine flash, quite often it occurs when I'm making a left or right turn at a T intersection where the other side of the road (top of the T) is forested and unlit. I have an intersection like this at the exit from from our residential sub-division onto a fairly busy main road. Never fails, I make the turn and then the car decides to go high beam, just in time to blind oncoming traffic or light up the car I've just turned in behind. I've turned this feature off.

I have searched through the PDF owners manual for a "sensitivity" adjustment for the auto high-beams feature and I do not believe there is one. There is an "Auto Light Sensitivity" feature for setting the level of darkness at which the headlights come on. You can find this on page 188 and 348 of the manual.

In the Infotainment menu you will find this feature under:

Settings \ Vehicle \ Lighting Setup \ Auto Light Sensitivity

I have not been able to test that this has any affect on when the high-beams actuate when Auto High-Beam is enabled. I don't believe it does but let us know if you have tested it and find you can reproduce and confirm its' effect.

I've got the exact situation coming out of the subdivision where I live. Don't consider that to be a shortcoming of the car, it's working the way it's designed to work. Just a unique situation. No feature on any vehicle will work for everyone under all conditions.

 

Mine kept coming on behind white and silver cars so I finally just disabled it by pulling the right stalk toward you a few seconds until it clicks. The green auto light turns off.
