Idlestopper installed - no more auto start/stop!

Just put in the iddlestopper and tested it out. For those people that want to start the car without auto start/stop enabled, this does the trick. Tested it out after the 20 min install and sure enough, several starts and it was disabled automatically! If you decide you want to turn it on, you still can, but it isn’t on when I started the car. Finally!!!!!!

Sure, I bought it from here - https://www.idlestopper.com/ and then followed this video to install it -

After using it for a few weeks now, I can say that I absolutely love it and I haven't had any issues. When I start the car, after about 20 seconds, the autostop orange light comes up on the dash the same as if I had manually hit the button. But, if I want to turn it back on, I just hit the button. This should have been like this from the factory!

This is fantastic. So basically, by default it is off now. But you still keep the option to turn it on at will if you want. This indeed how it should have come.

As I understand it, the behavior of the AIS (Auto Idle Stop) is dictated by the EPA, not Acura. It works this way on EVERY vehicle that has this feature, except not all have a nice easy to use button to disable it.

It is always just a matter of time before someone reverse engineers and fixes government mandates

We're all fixing the government mandates, even if we do it manually.

Auto stop is a government mandate that some random bureaucrats imposed arbitrarily on fleet mileage for car manufacturers. It's a joke because consumers don't want it and don't use it, so in reality it is 100% meaningless. But it was put in as an "opt out" (you can turn it off) instead of an "opt in" (you have to turn it on) so that the hope is over time drivers will become beaten down into accepting it or younger drivers who never knew driving without it will just accept it. This is also why manufacturers make "green energy" cars that nobody buys, to balance out the fact that trucks and SUVs are their most popular vehicles. Then they just throw away the "green" cars into a landfill and everyone pretends that we saved the environment. It's pretty awesome.

Not sure about that. My 2017 BMW saves the AIS setting between drives. I don’t have to turn it off every time I get in the car.

So unless the rules changed since then (unlikely, given the Administration’s environmental policies), it’s entirely up to the manufacturer.

I certainly cannot argue about your BMW.

It is certainly possible that I misunderstood what I had read about it. Perhaps there is some nuance regarding EPA credits to manufacturers, MPG ratings and all that malarkey.

It was not my intent to misinform.

I went ahead and ordered one too. I'm getting it mainly for the wife. She doesn't drive the car a lot and I worry, for me as well when your going to make a left turn into on coming traffic and the engine is off. If you had to make an immediate decision to go now, I don't like the auto stop suddenly starting and quickly try to get the car moving when the pedal pushed halfway. Seems like a lot of stress on the powertrain to me.

So spending $80. is peace of mind for us.

Looks like a great product but, the installation involves a lot of opportunities for the ham-handed among us to break clips and struggle with proper fitment.
Too bad I can’t get the guy who made the video to come over and do it for me.

I just bought one for myself as a Xmas present. After watching the video on YT it seems easy. I had the trim removal to do this without breaking any clips. Also the trims placement are similar to our Accord. I can’t wait to install this.

This still keeps the ugly light on the dash though. If it defeated the start/stop AND kept the light off that'd be nice but in this case..just hit the button when you shift first thing and bam done.

I still prefer to have the light on so I know it’s disabled. The light is out of the way in the bottom left corner. It doesn’t bother me as much.

About 6-7 seconds after starting the car you will see the AIS light up, indicating engine stop is disabled. If you push the AIS button now the feature will now be active and the engine will turn off when car is stopped. Pressing it again will disable the feature, just like before. There is nothing different here because of the IdleStopper is installed. What you now have is a device that disables the AIS upon starting the car. That's it.

The light is on when disabled, just like if you didn't have have the IdleStopper installed and that's the way it should be so you know its disabled. If it bothers you use a piece of electrical tape to cover it up. I like it on so I know what mode the AIS is in.

Your statement of "automatically" and "press the button" contradicts itself. This device automatically turns it off without having to press a button.

I haven't looked into the idle stopper much, but couldn't it theoretically be used for other functions in the car such as turning on Brake Hold? Every time I turn on my car, I have a sequence of turning off AIS, turning on Brake Hold, and turning on LKAS. I'd be very happy to eliminate the first 2.

According to Idlestopper, this could in theory be used for other functions in the car but they have not tested it.

I have a 2019 RDX. I have all of that turned off and it stays off until I manually turn it back on. Unlike AIS, which needed to be turned off every start, before I got the idlestopper.

Not sure if they changed something in newer years?

Just reread your post. You meant ON. I dont use brake hold or lane assist. But if I remember correctly from when I first got the car those did stay on all the time before I manually turned it off.

LKAS (Lane keep assist system), the lower left button on the right side of the steering wheel, has to be manually turned on each time the car starts. I can't speak for brake hold as I don't use it.

Just installed the idle stopper in my RDX with little effort and it works great! Only took about 15 minutes. I'm going to investigate wiring one to the Brake Hold button soon.

I followed the video that chappyja posted, removed the trim pieces to reach the back of the idle stop switch, disconnected the harness, one end of the "idle stopper" is a female and the other end is a male connector, just plug the factory harness male connector to the "idle stopper" female connector, than plug the "idle stopper" to the idle stop switch and that is it. It's like an extension added between the switch and the factory harness. It took less than 10 minutes to get it done with the help of the video.

361 RMB converts to USD 48.93 with today's exchange rate. The difficult part is to get it from China to North America. I had to arrange a logistic company in China to ship it here. With the shipping that cost less than USD 60. It costs just a little bit less than the one that most forum members already installed but it is a lot easier to install it.

i am building my own for about $35. Only because I can.
I like the packaging of yours but am concerned that the power on that connector is the illumin power, which is not true 12v, so I am staying with the cigarette lighter power source.
Keep us tuned in to how it works for you.

I have no idea what is the technical parameters of the "idle stopper" . I just find it very easy to install because it is directly plug and play, and it is reversible. It works as it should after I installed it so far. I even checked the other features like LAK, VSA, RDM, CMBS...etc, just to make sure it does not cause any malfunction. So far so good. I would probably make my own if I had the knowledge as you.

once I decide on my final design, I’ll post it. Gotta keep busy during this ‘vid winter... glad hear it works well!
