Turbo Icon

Can anyone tell me what the Turbo Icon is trying to tell me? I notice it change color intensity and lighting locations but have no idea what it means.

A fancy way of showing boost when you're on the gas and vacuum when you're not. A normal boost gauge would show a numeric number instead of a fancy colour.

Not sure if you noticed yet, but its seems exclusive to sport + mode. Perhaps in other modes the turbo is diabled?

Nope - there's an option to have it always on, always off, or Sport+ only - that's for the indicator display, the turbo is always functioning.

Turbo Gage

Well I have the boost gage on all the time but what is the meaning of the colors? Looking at it as a clock face the color, in various intensity, is purple and from 3 to 6 and red from 12 to 3. I'm sure the red area is positive boos pressure but what is the purple area? It can't be negative boost pressure. It would have been simpler to just show a positive boost pressure number in the circle in my opinion . The dealer did not know when I asked and I don't see an explanation in the quick start guide.

Blue and red would be boost, Once it drops below the 3 oclock position, it would be vacuum when you are off boost.

When I used a OBD reader, peak boost was around 14psi, normal was around 8-10psi.

Turbo cars usually have a pressure sensor in the intake manifold to measure boost. When the turbo is spooled up, the intake is under positive boost, shown in red. When you coast or let off the accelerator pedal the throttle plate closes and since the pistons are still attempting to suck air in, you get a vacuum which is shown in purple (the turbo is still producing some level of boost, but on the other side of the throttle plate and excess pressure is relieved by a valve, usually called a blow off valve). Negative boost is equivalent to a vacuum.

I also wish there was an option to show boost as a numeric value (also with the G-meter)

i think I read somewhere that max boost is 20+ Psi. I guess the hondata or other flash will increas from that 14 to closer to the 20..?

Reading some KTuner and Hondata info on the Accord forums, 20 seems to also be the max boost and normal 14 just like the RDX. Same engine basically, the RDX is just tuned for 91, hence the higher hp/tq then the Accord. In the cases of the KTuner Accords, the boost gets turned up to around 17 I believe. Id suspect the RDX applications would see similar results.

Page 135 of Owner’s Manual...

...is not that helpful.

“Turbo Meter
“When the turbo charger is producing boost, this meter shows the boost pressure.”

There is also a drawing of the gauge face with an arc going from 12 o’clock to 3 o’clock, but no mention of colors.

I hope the car is updated so that this meter shows the PSI next to the red and purple graphic. I do like the sport graphics and the "fictitious" G-meter as its called in the manual. It reminds me of the Forza xbox games which I enjoy.

I find both circles useless. I'm not really able to look at either when driving hard enough to create a spike on either. The G meter is impossible to get any meaning - it's not like the RDX can pull 1.3 g's and it seems the outer circle is a full lateral G.

I'd rather have some up/down meter. OR how about a HUD version.

There's one sure-fire way to achieve 1.0 G, at least until aerodynamics intervenes.

But I'm not going first.

And yes, the gauge is downright silly.

Seems more like an idiot light in reverse

I too was/am not sure what these little indicators mean or do other than they are related to their respective functions. They seem more like video game indicators than useful driver information.
