A-spec Exhaust Tip Conversion

I have a 2019 RDX Tech and really like the bigger A-spec style muffler tips. Does anyone know if it is a simple conversion if I just buy the parts from the dealership or is it not possible because it is welded on or something?

The larger A-Spec tips are welded on and so are the ones on your RDX. You could order the A-Spec tips and have your current ones cut off and the A-Spec ones welded on but you would also have to get a new rear bumper because of the larger tips require more space in the bumper.

This is actually not the case, I actually just replaced the advance tips with a set of black powder coated tips that are even bigger than the A-Spec and they fit like a glove. There is plenty of extra space in the non A-Spec bumper.

Can you share a link and maybe a pic of what you got/installed?

The first pic is what I used to have, which are 4.5" tips which are bigger than the Aspec 4" I purchased them on ebay here https://www.ebay.com/itm/264853068702

The second pic is what I currently have which is very similar to the stock Aspec style and same 4" size also purchased these on ebay https://www.ebay.com/itm/264186739533

I think I really like the 4.5" version, and want to add it to my RDX. Mine is a 2021 SH-AWD/Tech and from my measurement, the inlet looked like it was 2.25", while the eBay product you linked to, requires a minimum inlet diameter of 2.5". I also found an identical Silver colored version (4.5").....I personally prefer Silver over black. The link is as below:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/383175975867

Can you confirm that the inlet size is actually 2.5" and not 2.25", in the 2021 Acura RDX ? Accordingly, I plan to order the above eBay product.

Thank you.

Also, feedback on why you decided to replace the 4.5" version and go with a 4" version ? Thank you

The ones on the regular non-A-Spec RDXs are certainly not welded on. The tips can be taken off easily, once a simple bolt is removed.

So, no specific reason why I changed other than just liking the look of the smaller 4" ones a bit better. The 4.5" tips that you are looking at should fit just fine. I believe that the inner diameter is actually 2.25" but the 4.5" have three clamps that you can adjust inward to make it fit. It advertises 2.5" to 3.5" but it definitely fit the 2.25" on the RDX and it was very snug. You should be fine.

I bought a couple of pairs of exhaust tips. 2.5" inlet and 4" outlet (5" long). And another one that's 2.5" inlet and 4.5" outlet (5.75" long).

Will be fitting one of these pairs on Monday or tuesday.

Here is the picture with the 4.5" on the left and stock version on the right.........the 4.5" outlet is just placed into the spot of course, to validate how it looks, and not yet welded in.

Note: The 4.5" seems to have shifted slightly out of place while I was taking the picture, and thus looks a bit askew, but you get the idea.

Thanks for the reply. A bit late for me, since I already bought mine from other sources, but thanks anyway.

No, the 2.25", which I also bought, will not fit, since the outer diameter of the RDX's pipe is between 2.25" and 2.5"........2.5" is slightly bigger, while 2.25" is slightly smaller.

Based on what the muffler shops told, the clamp versions will work themselves loose after a bit, and thus not recommended. Safest is always to weld them into place.

Being an ASpec you had the the below tips welded on, correct?

Will the below tips work on non-Aspec trims w/o the need for welding?

Any difference in sound?

Thanks!

I don’t think jejo’s RDX is an actual Aspec. In pic #1, there is no Aspec badge, and in pic #2 there is.

That’s correct! It’s an advance made to look like an aspec on the exterior only plus the steering wheel :-).

Good call! Didn’t pick that up on first glance. no rear “diffuser” molded into the rear bumper either.

Bringing some recent info to this post, in case it helps others ... I have a 2025 Advance, so the 'rectangle' tips. I am converting to an A-Spec style w/ the round lower bumper cut-outs and round tips. Someone measured their A-Spec tips and they were 4.75" outer diameter - and welded on. The older RDX non-A-Spec had smaller round tips that were bolted on. My rectangle ones were also welded on (3 welds per tip). As step one, I removed the OEM lower bumper cover as part of replacing with the new round outlet A-Spec one - and that provided some additional access to the tip 'area.' I tried a bit to grind off the welds but I could tell it was going to be a struggle so I had a local muffler shop remove them. Then, I brought it home and put the new rear bumper trim on and 4-1/2" diameter clamp-on round tips. In photos, due to some 'fish-eye' from the camera lens/angles, the tips may look a little 'off' but in reality, they look normal.

Here's a link to another post that has some of this info - A-Spec exhaust finisher diameter? - AcuraZine - Acura Enthusiast Community

Cheers!

I decided to go with something closer to OEM. I found this on eBay and plan to weld it on soon. So far, it fits into the original OEM pipe right over the non A-Spec exhaust tip. Fortunately, I didn’t have to pay any duty when it was shipped to Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
