I'm about to make some 2019 RDX owners very happy! I finally found where the speaker is for that loud ass beep when opening the tailgate. I figured out how to muffle it and made it a 1000 times more bearable. It's right behind the left tail light! Attached are pictures I took and instructions for each step. It took me less than 10 mins and you'll only need 2 screwdrivers and some tape of sorts. Please enjoy!!
(Step 1) Use a flat-head screwdriver and pry up the protective cover. It comes off pretty easy. (Step 2) Using a Phillips head screwdriver undo the two screws holding the light assembly in. (Step 3) Gently pull out the edge of the light assembly. It's not locked in, it just sits in the hole. (Step 4) No need to disconnect the lights. Just let it hang there. The speaker is down in the hole right behind the light. (Step 5) When looking down in the hole you'll see the speaker housing. It's a tight fit. I had to kinda turn my hand backwards to get it in there. (Step 6) I cut a piece of 2-sided tape about 1-2\" long and left the paper cover on one of the sides (Step 7) I reached down there and put the tape over the speaker hole. I pressed in the middle to completely cover the hole. Voila! Sound is muffled! You can use different materials or add more tape to muffle it more. Put everything thing back and you're all done!
I did it too but now I'm unable to hear the audible alerts of the Tire Fill Assist when I'm filling the front tyres (especially the front passenger side :0) I may re-adjust the tape to make it a tad louder when the weather permits.
Anyway, thank you so much for the tip.

I learn do much on this site, I didn’t even know about the Tire Fill Assist.

I was in a noisy parking lot, loading groceries in the back. I was stepping back and forth between the shopping cart and the RDX. Lo and behold the tailgate started closing ...on the back of my head! I never heard the beeping. So I will not be muting mine! AND now I am more tuned into the beeping...and where my feet are. At the time, I must have thought it was someone else's car! LOL But good info for those it bothers. (I know it is an old thread)
I am totally familiar with how the hands free tailgate works... just forgot about it as I was arranging the packages. BTW, it must take quite a force to have the tailgate auto-reverse, as I had to move away and forcefully grab the bottom of the tailgate to get it to stop.
I think the alarm sounds the horn, but It sure sounds to me like the "door lock acknowledgement"/ "alarm armed" beep comes from the left rear taillight area.
I realize this was originally posted a while ago, but in case anyone is trying this for the first time: pay special attention to step 3, in particular the part about pulling "out". Even though the screws you remove face backward, the front corner of the light slides outward (sideways).
Thanks very much OP, in case you are still following this thread.
Great write-up. Ideal behavior would be the ability to set the volume level to his and hers fobs so that I'd never have to listen to this. We know that's highly unlikely so the macgyver solution is appreciated.
I know your post is very old but I want to thank you for your most useful post as that high pitched beep when the tailgate went up or down drove me crazy. To help others I just completed the almost complete silencing of the beep on my 2023 RDX and your instructions completely worked. Thanks again.
