Wireless Android Auto Works

Hi all, I tested out the AAWireless unit. It just came in. It's from the popular Indiegogo project located here:
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/aawireless#/comments

What can I say...it works with our RDXs! I used the cable that came with it and ran into no issues. I did have a private DNS set on my phone which caused some weird wireless behavior. After disabling it, it worked without issue. It could have also been my cable...I replace my old one with one that came with the unit. I should probably test more, but otherwise, no issues...works no problem loads quickly.

Now I can just get in my RDX and go....not have to deal with cables.

It's way smaller than I thought it would be:

There is maybe a very tiny bit of lag....but completely acceptable. Steering wheel controls remain fully functional.

And I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra with the April security patch.

Awesome! I ended up ordering one as well and waiting for mine to ship out for June. Hopefully they can fix their issues with their supply chain.

Great news! Mine has cleared customs and tracking is sitting at the next step so hopefully in the next week or two I'll be able to use mine. Hoping there aren't any issues with it before implementing the firmware update they posted about.

Have you noticed any degradation of sound quality?

None. Just like a cable, Android Auto when in wireless form, uses a lossless connection. There is nothing lost...only convenience gained.

There are some wireless dongles for Apple CarPlay out there already, but there was nothing for Android Auto. So thankfully this project happened.

Owners in China confirmed some of the wireless CarPlay dongles work on RDX.

Interesting. Wonder how long future proof/support goes with this unit. Google pushes updates to AndroidAuto frequently and there's a good chance the updates would break this. Will it be just a firmware update?

The guy behind this project has been working on AA specific software and work-arounds for over 3 years already so I'd assume he will be pretty on top of it for quite a while. Also, sales have now exceeded $2.3 million for this so far so he has incentive to keep it going. Just installed mine yesterday and it is so easy to get going, very nice product. I'm going to order another for the GF so her 21 CR-V can have the same. He has been forced to switch to a more powerful processor for the new ones due to supply constraints so she may end up with the one I've already got in hand.

Just for some clarification before i make the decision to pull the trigger: You can still use your mobile data connection while connected via wifi to this, correct? Your carrier won't see it as you trying to use hotspot data?

That is correct, your phone will use Wifi direct to the unit and mobile data will remain available.

Newest OTA update has arrived. It fixed my lag issue, connected faster, and the connection didn't drop. This product just got better.

I also successfully flashed my AA Wireless device as per the recent Indiegogo update. No issues at all and I couldn't be more pleased with this product. It is how the RDX should have come.

Sounds awesome. Have you seen this?

Haven't messed around with this app yet but I wonder if it would work with wireless AA. Would be nice if the dev adds Torque as one of the files to install.

Google is apparently working on a AA update that interfaces with the car's engine and performance information. So you can see more info about the engine via AA. Similar to what Torque does, but instead it's native within AA.

Good to know! No wonder I saw the AA software in the head unit interacts with Honda's vehicle status software stack.

It has been about 7 months since the last post in the thread. Are you guys still happy with AA Wireless? I am thinking of getting AA Wireless instead of Motorola MA1.

Why? I have been using MA1 since Feb with no issues.

It seems to be available on Amazon for $89.95 much more frequently these days. DON'T pay the scalpers!

It's always unavailable whenever I check Amazon. Guess I will have to check more often. Thanks.
