spotify over android phone
Still struggling with the android connection over usb
Has anyone been able to get Spotify to work over USB with an android phone? I can if I connect via audio (miniphone) cable via ACCY, but not USB to the correct usb connection near cupholders.
A USB stick with music works fine, but my phone won't... wants to connect as a data source but will not play spotify. Is that an android auto thing (someday?)

You will get the high quality when you follow the steps for ripping multichannel files per the step by step procedure listed in this forum. We use DVD-Audio/Bluray discs as a the source to create .FLAC files then copy them to USB.. that is when you get the high quality over USB.
Possibly MP3 via USB might be better than streaming but you probably won't get much better using USB versus Bluetooth for streaming audio.
Does that help?

Yup, I do have (semi) high quality files that I play over the USB stick, they sound great. I was looking for a decent Spotify solution, but if Bluetooth is not much different than USB for streaming, I will just do that. Just seemed wrong that I couldn't play that over USB... maybe the elusive update. Thanks...

The BT connection in the RDX is at the least CD quality sound with Spotify songs where you have enabled the high quality option and saved files to your phone. I use Spotify via BT and also play many of my own rips from CD's saved to the the highest quality WMA or MP3 format. What with all the car noise (I have the Tech package) and fake engine noise, I'm not sure I could really hear the difference in the car at speed in traffic by going to higher quality lossless formats. For a period of time I was playing from my phone, which has an internal AKM AK4490EN DAC, via the AUX port and the BT holds up very well in quality. I no longer bother connecting by AUX.
Btw, I seldom have my volume over 12 or 13 (per central instrument cluster) and at most 18 when fed by my phone over BT. So maybe I don't listen loud enough that car noise is an issue with me. Any louder though and I fear it might trigger tinnitus I picked up at a Zeppelin concert at the Seattle Kingdome in 77. Ears rang for a week after that one.
I have a several songs I use to compare the RDX to my home speakers and to my DAC + amp + HiFiman headphones. One is the Fleetwood Mac Rumours remastered album and to my ears it is just clean and sweet on all the systems. I'm always looking for new demo songs so feel free to chime in with suggestions.

PS... your phone has to support the aptX or aptX HD audio codec to have at least CD quality sound. I doubt the RDX supports aptX HD but would very happy if it did.

Thanks, Samsung s9+, so yes. The bluetooth playing the higher quality downloads over spotify sounds good... so that will be my plan (until android auto comes, if it does, when maybe the usb will work also. I'm looking forward to Waze on my nav screen.)
