SiriusXM Trial $ Subscription
So my SiriusXM trial about to expires and the company blasted me with sales mail. So tonight I took the bait and sign up for 6 months @ $5/mos ($30 + taxes & fees came out ~$40). I have a short commute to work and only uses it 20 minutes/day at most. I don’t need Howard Stern or sport news. Mostly I listen to music and news.
Does anyone sign up for SiriusXM service here? Does it worth it? I could cancel in 6 mos if I don’t need it.

I've had the same $5/mo plan for years now - for that price it's worth it. Only issue is every 5/6 months I have to call and threaten to cancel in order to get that price, otherwise they'll renew at the regular subscription rate.

"I'm sorry, sir, that promotion is no longer in my computer, I cannot give you that price again." YES, you can, you always do, and you will again. "No sir, it's no longer available." Ugh. I have never NOT gotten the promotion price.

I just kept declining and then they offered me 3 months for $2 total and I had to give in ha ha, overall sound quality is decent, I get it everywhere with no commercials, beats FM radio and fiddling with the phone while driving and I get to find new music, I listen to the same like 4 stations tho, my favorite is the Chill station

Bingo. I started with XM in 2005 and I've had to do the dance with them EVERY 6 months.

When I got the RDX I had just renewed and wanted to tack the balance of that subscription on to the trial that came with the RDX, effectively making the next 'action' on my part 8 months away. I was assured there was no way that could happen. Eventually got the a 'new' 6 month promotional rate plus the 3 month trial (9 months total) for what the refund amount would have been on the subscription I had just renewed. At least I got to use a different script.

NOTE: With some effort, you can mix two stations into one, such as classic vinyl and classic rewind.

Back when I listened to SXM, there was an option to get essentially just the music channels and not the high-profile content like Howard Stern. As I recall, it cut a bunch off the monthly bill. If you can't get them to give you $2 deals, or you don't want to do the complete song and dance every six months, You can opt out of the BS and get a much lower music-only rate. They will pretty much leave you alone with that package and not keep trying to up sell you every time you talk to them.

As you know, the stations are pretty tightly organized.
You have ‘60s on six’ and ‘70s on seven’ for example. You can make a mix of them, it will be called ‘mix 1’ for example, and it will play songs from both 6 and 7.
It was a pain to do, but I did manage, and the instructions are not really that clear.
Pages 280-81 on the .PDF version of the manual.
I have only been able to mix 2 channels, but the manual implies you can mix more than 2 channels into one.

Nothing more than what I was expecting. During the course of the conversation the rep told me that instead of paying 15.99/mo I could get 6 months for $96.
It's really kind of funny some of the things they offer before acquiescing to what I know they would eventually do.

Love the variety Sirius XM provides, but can’t stand to pay for inferior sound quality over “free” FM. It is noticeable, especially if you switch back and forth between sources often. I’ve gotten good at the annoyance of switching channels during commercials (as others have gotten good at the six month negotiation dance for the $5 deal)
Side story — on our last car, a 2008 model my wife’s daily driver...XM BRIEFLY offered a lifetime subscription for a single payment of $399. She listened to it for 10 years, and we never made a call to XM after the initial setup. Now that was worth it (to her).

If I actually want to listen to music, I either stream or carplay Amazon prime unlimited. When I just want something going on, telling the lady in the steering wheel to play something on XM, like “play the Beatles channel” works for me. Once XM gets going, I often change to other stations.

I learn new things everyday reading the forum. I had Amazon Prime for years but never tried the music streaming. Is it any good? I did enjoy Amazon Prime on my AppleTV and iOS App though.
Also today I created mix SiriusXM channels on the RDX. My son and I each had our own fav music channel. Now I can stream both at the same time.

The regular Prime Music, being free is good. But it is limited. If you like any of the playlists they put out, fine, and the channels are very similar to XM channels, with higher quality music. What I like best is the ability to download playlists to my phone, and play it offline.
With Prime Unlimited, you get much more, including anything I ever asked for.

Make sure you ALWAYS call before it auto renews. Otherwise, you'll spend weeks arguing with them. SiriusXM has one of the highest complaint rates and is frequently sued by state's AG offices and there are tons of complaints here

I saw it mentioned on another forum that it's easy to get the 12 months for $60. deal right now. If you log onto your account, there is a section that says "I want to". Click on that and then select "cancel subscription", from there you are given 3 different renewal options to select from. I haven't personally tried it but my sister and BIL did Sunday and they said it was very easy to do and only took a minute and they received a credit back for the unused portion of their current plan. It was much easier than dealing with customer service on the phone.

I just did it too, all online. I already was on a discounted plan, but not this cheap. My subscription wasn’t up until October, but I got a credit for the remaining months, so I added 6 months for only $15.

Whoo ah! Thanks for this information. My current promotion was due this month and it was for more than the $60/ year plan so I did this today. $68.00 total with taxes & fees and I don't have to talk with them for another year!

I tried the whole cancelling thing to get a better rate and then chatted with someone online - he said he could keep my wife’s car at $4.99 a month. So then I said what’s the final total for the two cars and it was $34 vs the $40 I’ve been paying. I don’t see how $20 for mine plus $4.99 for hers equals $34. So I told him to cancel hers. I kept mine because I drive a ridiculous amount and sometimes out of cell range so Apple Music doesnt work. Sirius is such a ripoff no matter how you slice it. We have apple radio included in our phone plans with unlimited data and the music is way better - not the same 7 songs replayed with between all the ads for other Sirius xm stations.

I always generate a virtual credit card with my Citi account, with a max $ amount of about $5 over what they quote me and about 2 months expiration date after my phone call/online renewal. That way they are not able to automatically charge my CC at renewal time.
