Parking Sensor Confusion
Parking Sensor Confusion
I started a thread about a hitch installation on our 2023 RDX just to carry our bikes and some good info was brought up, albeit somewhat confusing about rear accessories (bike racks...etc) interfering with the reverse parking sensor ultimately causing it to possibly slam on the brakes prematurely. The confusion comes from turning the Parking sensor switch off (lower left dash) and exactly what it does when you turn it off. Before my org. "hitch" thread the research answers were all over the place. Some said the button doesn't work. Some said it works sometimes. Then of course you have the system in the manual of over-riding the rear sensor permanently if you have 3 hands and 1 foot free that you need to hold all the buttons at the same time...lol. Finally got one reasonable answer in my "hitch" thread that said the button only shuts of the annoying beeper. It does do that, but it also kept our RDX from braking itself if you got to close going forward. I haven't tried it in reverse yet. So what exactly does this "Sensors Off" button do. Does it shut the beeper off only?.....does it shut the sensors off completely?. Does the RDX have a forward self braking feature also?....or just a reverse auto braking feature and thats why our RDX would have hit the wall in front if I let it. Guess the bottom line ??? here is this....If I put a bike rack on our RDX will pressing the "Sensor Off" button on the lower left dash let me back up without any issues ?? Sorry for the book here folks...but inquiring minds must know !! THANKS !!
Well I definitely appreciate your very informative answer, but maybe you can still help an old timer out and quote the exact line from the manual that states...."pressing the sensor button to off only silences the audio warning (beep). Or maybe you can quote the line from the manual that states..."When the sensors are on, the front sensor only warns you that you are getting close to an object but will not automatically apply the brakes". Or maybe you can quote the line in the manual that states...."When the sensors are off, the reverse sensor will still cause the vehicle to apply brakes automatically when you get to close to an object". And it's always good to keep in mind that not all pre-owned vehicles come with an owners manual so some new owners look for help from other owners. Thanks
Manuals are available online for free download and I’m not going to do all the work for you because you claim to be old. You obvious have a internet connected device which give you access to any information you could ever want. If you can’t do the work it sounds like that’s a you problem. I pointed you in the direction to find the answer now it’s up to you.
@NBP04TL4ME I’m not going to do the leg work for someone who has the ability and means to find the information but doesn’t want to or is to lazy to do it. He was pointed in the direction he needed to go. You be the nanny! I have already raised my kids.

The general spirit of the forum is to exchange ideas, information and provide help. If you aren't interested in doing that - that's your prerogative, but no need explain why you won't help or knocking the OP for not following your direction. No need for Nanny's and I already raised my kids too.

Dynaglide - I feel your pain. I sure was hoping to see the "answer" everyone reading this thread wanted to see...That was a great post that NBP04TL4ME had explaining how to turn OFF the sensors so they won't beep...I also did a search on this thread and only found 3 references to the word BRAKE..and none in the included MANUAL piece...albeit I think that turning off the sensors could prevent the mitigation of applying brakes(IE not allowing you to back out of a parking place) BUT nothing being mentioned seems like that might not be the all inclusive answer that you are looking for. I plan to get a hitch installed and have run into this issue with another vehicle...I believe I told my spouse to go RTFM and I will never do that again. I wish there was a way to remove the non-constructive answers as it makes me not want to use the forums to help solve issues that don't have a clear cut, black and white answer...and without users like us, there might not be a need for forums and the like. I see these same kind of challenges on other types of media.
P.S. Keep asking questions.
