Potential buyers peruse forums like this before making a decision. If we want to be able to sell our cars, either soon or eventually, without taking a major loss, we need to avoid going off the deep end as we express our frustrations.

“Nightmare” cars have engines that put out huge amounts of pollutants while claiming to be clean (Looking at you, VW/Audi), or explode on impact. The RDX bugs are as annoying to me as to anyone, but they will be fixed, especially with appropriate pressure from current owners.

While problems with the infotainment system may not be in the "nightmare" category to you, as a current owner of a 2014 RDX (and a potential buyer of a 2019), reading some of the stories about less than helpful service reps causes me concern. And having sales reps tell falsehoods about Android Auto is quite annoying (I was told "any day now" at the Portland Auto Show last month). The only Acura dealer near me is an hour away - having to make frequent trips there to get "Could not duplicate the problem" would not be fun.

All this is why I've been spending time at the Honda Passport forum.

I've been reading this forum since my wife decided on a 2019 RDX. I'll be purchasing end of this month/early March. I visited my local Acura dealer for a couple test drives. When I asked about Android Auto, my dealer said "probably not for at least a year." I think he's probably right.

Yea, he's probably being honest. My gut tells me that it will be on the 2020.

I enjoyed the test drive - a combination of freeways and mountain road twisties. But, like some reviews have indicated, I thought the brake pedal was a little mushy. Did you think so?

If the Passport doesn't work out for me, I'm hoping that the 2020 RDX will be free from bugs. I've been spoiled by my near perfect 2014 (70,000+ miles).

what I don’t get, is as a programmer this really is as simple as a 1 man task to implement the touch pad to work with android auto, it is not that freaking difficult

I can understand a slight delay... but this is crazy.

I found the opposite - the brake pedal was stronger than I'm used to ('15 Forester, '14 G37).

OK!

First this should be a sticky.

I had a lockup with the new acura update, latest ios, genuine apple cable... still beeped and locked up.... Was reading on here to find the correct fuse, when i saw this 'hack' to reboot the system... Like some others - I had to do it twice, BUT IT WORKED...

Thanks Again,
-Stan

I had a "System Error: function not available" message on the HUD when trying to change channels using the left thumb wheel. It went a way when I manually changed a station. GRRRRRR!

I was able to reboot the system using the 3 button method, but now I am missing the Radio icon. It is not on the 2nd screen or in the quick apps from the steering wheel. Any idea on how the get the Radio icon back on the home screen?

Reboot it again. It often takes two times.

Put me on the list. Loud beep and system lockup while driving using Apple Car Play. I have 300 miles on this new RDX. I have also had at least 4 times where the left scroll wheel won’t advance my presets. Ugh.

Just spent 15 days on the road, learned the following: When the "System Error..." occurs (which is frequently), turn the audio system OFF using the left hand steering wheel switch, wait a couple of seconds, then turn it back on with the same switch. Wait a few seconds after the power returns, then the glitch is gone. Works every time.

That is awesome and I will be trying that for sure. It's about 75% of the time for me when I try to use the preset skip where I get that error!

Same problem here

I typically drive with CarPlay and Waze open, usually with either Apple Music, FM radio, or Apple podcast running.

Initially it was very occasional, Apple Carplay would disconnect and reconnect. Irritating, but no big deal. In February, there was a software update that I was hopeful would fix the issue, but instead it seemed to make it far more frequent. A few weeks ago it had gotten so bad I couldn't even use CarPlay. I took it into my dealer, they said they couldn't replicate the issue and so they reset the system (causing me to lose all my preferences). It seemed to go back to less frequent after that. Then last week, and now again this morning, I had the full freeze that others on this forum have mentioned. Turning the car off and opening the door didn't resolve it. Had to do the "three button" reset. When it rebooted, had no AM or FM radio in the menu. Did the three button reset again and it was fixed.

I otherwise love this car. But I'm finding the infotainment extremely frustrating.

Acura, please fix. Please.

Thanks for the video. It has been discussed before that you may need to do the 3-finger reboot twice to get the system to come back.

That's unfortunate for you to feel this way. I just purchased my new 2019 Acura RDX-Advanced package and feel the same way. I never had such a horrible experience. I love the ride; but, the infotainment system is just not working properly enough to enjoy the whole driving experience.

Same issue

After having this happen multiple times I decided to join the class action suit. Having to pull fuses or disconnect the battery simply isn’t acceptable to me in a luxury car.

Just signed on to the RDX lawsuit. I am fed up with all the denials, lies and deception and of course the problems.

So just a PSA: if you have this issue, it may be worth pursuing a lemon law buy back. This issue was such a hassle for me that I filed a lemon law buyback, and long story short, won my case. I initially took my car in at 3000 miles, so I was able to recover most of my initial purchase amount. I've had the car for about 16 months.

The reason I took this to the lemon law is because while the issue is not a huge safety issue, it's still a big deal for folks who bought the car with the intent of using Apple Carplay. On top of that, Honda/Acura has not taken ANY responsibility for fixing this issue, claiming that it's purely an Apple Carplay issue and not their fault. I disagree, as Apple does not make the Radio/Bluetooth on the car, nor any of the other infotainment pieces related to audio. Apple simply provides the software, but it's on Honda/Acura to integrate that software with their system. They hired their own attorneys and fought me pretty hard on this, which only pissed me off even more. I'm very happy to have won my case. If anyone's interested in details, feel free to PM me. Btw, I'm in the state of GA. Acura needs to take responsibility for this. From the sounds of it, they have no plans on addressing the issue and continue to sell the cars with no mention of "Apple Carplay not covered under warranty" which is BS. On my final attempt to fix, their field engineer basically told me "We're aware of this issue, but we're going to wait for Apple to fix this." He basically told me to go kick rocks.

I'm done with Honda and Acura forever. My wife and I have bought 6 Hondas/Acuras in the past, but this incident has soured the brand completely for me.

Congrats on winning your lemon law case. AHC is a horrible company.

Typically I’ll get the Infotainment lockup while using CarPlay on longer drives that are over an hour, but this weekend I had two six hour trips and it never happened once. What I did differently was leaving the screen of the iPhone on while connected to CarPlay as I was using Waze.

I’ve been one of the folks telling everyone to calm down....I thought I had this thing figured out, no matter how quirky and weird. Now, mine has learned a “Stupid Infotainment Trick” (a la David Letterman’s Stupid Pet Tricks). About 10 minutes into my trip on Apple Car Play with my iPhone 8plus running iOS 13.3, the CarPlay goes dead. If I am impatient and/paying attention to it I will unplug the USB end of my cable for 5 seconds and then unplug the phone end for 5 seconds. Normally it goes back on within the net 15-20 seconds right where it left off in my music.

The other day I was listening intently to my wife while paying attention to the road. I noticed it happened and I elected to stay focused and the system returned in about 30 seconds of silence. Weird, eh? OK, I am back to bitching about this infotainment system.

Did you install the update, and if so was the last experience before or after the update?
