Speakers don't determine the volume, the amp does.

I know but even with the factory amp it starts to sound distorted after the volume is set to 30

If you upgrade the speakers and use the factory amp you'll get precisely zero extra volume over the stock setup.

You also have the issue where the amp/dsp adjusts for the speakers you have in there right now. I was wanting to do an amp upgrade, but have not got a good plan, and i have yet to hear one from anyone else. The amp is integrated into the CAN bus, it is not connected like you would think with rca cables, etc from the head unit, like the old days. You would need to take the outputs of the amp, drive another multichannel amp or two, and replace the speakers. If you were good at it, your amps would include a dsp so you could adjust each speaker response. A shop could balance it for you if you are not familiar with that process. it will cost you though...
I really like the separation of the system, but there is a limit when turning it up. I dont turn it up because it sound like it is straining. if it had more power, better speaker quality, then you could turn it up easily and enjoy. An added sub really helps the low end, and i really enjoy it myself. Also, it really matters on the source and the actual recording quality. 5.1 helps also.

let us know what you find out!
