Long "load time" on USB stick. Any fixes?

So I bought as 512 GB USB stick, and loaded up about 400 albums. (and it's only about half full) Now when I start my car, the infotainment system is unresponsive for a few minutes, presumably while it reads the content of the USB stick.

I would have thought that if i don't remove the USB, that there would be some internal cache of the library so it wouldn't have to take time to scan, but doesnt appear to be so. How does everyone else deal with this?

You live with it. It has been like this on my 2019 RDX since day one and none of the software updates have made it any better. Some days music pops right up and plays. Other days it takes 5 minutes or more before any music starts to play. And this is with a 64GB USB stick playing AAC files from my iTunes library.

Interesting. I was debating moving from one huge USB to multiple smaller ones to see if that helps. But based on what you said that might not be possible.

I honestly wouldnt care as much if it wasnt for that stupid "USB doesnt work with Android Auto". Cause if I could use Android/Spotify most of the time, i would and then switch to USB when desired.

I wonder...has anyone tried an SSD in a USB based enclosure? Wondering if that would be faster. I dont think the bottleneck is the speed of USB, but rather the speed of the USB stick itself.

naw, its the rdx. the processor is not the fastest, and the loading time just varies. sometimes it uses the cache up front, and updates any changes right in from of you, which is the way it is supposed to happen. Then sometimes it decides that it needs to refresh the cache, or some other process is blocking the USB access. I have found no difference in the size of the USB, only that when it decides to refresh the cache, of course it is much faster.

It's a shame because they actually did a GREAT job at making the UI for USB audio very good! (I love that you can search by Song, Artist and FOLDERS!)

But..its not the end of the world to do without music for the first few minutes of a drive.

The USB interface in the car is USB 2.0, so using a USB 2.0 or 3.0 or 3.1 flash drive makes no difference in how fast the music loads. As Funz51 said, it is the processor/software used in the RDX. When my USB system starts taking too long to load, I just pull the USB flash drive out, wait 10 seconds and reinsert the flash drive. Most of the time it will start playing within 10-15 seconds. When the system is running OK, enjoy it. It is a pretty good system. When it slows down there isn't much that can be done except pull the flash drive and reinsert it, or just wait; Like I said above, you learn to live with it.
