Hardwired dash cam with video

I finally hardwired a dash cam onto my 2019 RDX. I'm linking a video I made showing how I did it and which fuse slot I used. It was easier than I thought especially with hardwire kit from Amazon. After doing my car, I did my wife's Hyundai Palisade and that one was a little tougher taking off the A-pillar cover. For the RDX, you just have to move it upwards (see video) once you get it loose.

thanks for sharing! Been planning on getting a dash cam as well and wasn’t sure if I wanted to do the install on my own or not. Doing the rear one is now my concern, not sure how that would go.

I considered doing the rear too, however, I figure 99 percent of rear accidents are the fault of the person who hit you so I wanted to focus on the front camera. I'm in the process of making a video of how I got rid of all the chrome accents on my car and will post that soon. I love my car but there was just too much chrome.

I had the chrome vinyl wrapped. Really like the look of the chrome delete and I’ll be posting a video soon but not sure how long it will last. Would love to replace with A-spec parts, but can’t justify the cost (yet).

Thanks! It wasn't too bad and it went quicker than I thought it would. The hardest part was getting my chunky fingers through the space to attach the ground wire and researching which fuse to use. I figure it's nice to have the dash cam for additional safety/insurance needs if there ever is a need.

Thanks for the DIY. Not sure if you accounted for this anywhere, but from what I understand, the orientation of the add-a-circuit fuse is important from a safety perspective. Here is a video with more info:

Keep up the great work. Hope the wrap on the chrome pieces continues to work out.

Unfortunately no. At this point, I don’t have any plans on installing the rear camera but who knows, I might change my mind in a month or two.

After many months I finally got around to installing my front dash cam (a Viofo A119 v3) and this video was super helpful in making it happen. Thanks again for putting it together.

found this thread as i was looking to install dashcams on my 2024 RDX. Traded in my 2015 where I had 2 installed, and it's a fairly similar procedure, but wanted to see how others have done it.

First of all, unlike the OP here, i did not use the ground bolt that already has stuff on it. I don't like doing that. I've shorted something before when I kind of double tapped the wires, caused a spark and poof, something wasn't working right (this was like 20 years ago on an old car, and since then, i don't do it). What i did instead was drill a hole in the metal, a little above the hood latch, and used a hex washer sheet metal screw to hold in the ground terminal. I also used the number 3 fuse which is also for "option", primarily because i already had that size type of fuse tap and fuse from my old car.

One thing i was curious about was what the heck the fuse is for. What the heck is "option"??

Anyway, for those that want to do a rear camera, an easier way to install that is to just run the cable to the left side of the trunk. At least on my car it has a 12 volt plug there. So i just tucked the cables nicely and plugged it in there vs running the cable all the way to the front and hard wiring it.

Great minds think alike (I did the exact same steps, even using the same fuse before finding this post ....

Only difference was that I didn't remove the A-pillar cover. I ran the cord to the top of the A-pillar and then just tucked it under the of the cover so I didn't have to remove it...right where edge of the headliner so you can just tuck it under the headliner from there.
