Another Day... Another Freeze Up
Another Day... Another Freeze Up
Today’s episode starts in a remote area of VT near the Canadian border. Pouring rain when the infotainment system completely freezes. At the moment I needed the GPS to work since I had no clue where I was and had no cell service. I pulled over and pulled the fuse the dealer was kind enough to mark with white out. It did nothing. Must be the wrong fuse. At this point I grab the wrench I now carry to pull the battery. The system reboots only GPS, FM, Bluetooth and Sirius apps are missing. Pull the battery again and same results. I try the 3 finger reboot (should be 1 finger 🖕🏻
and I get the GPS app back. Soaking wet I continue on to Montreal in silence since the Bluetooth, CarPlay and radio apps never came back.
This is morning I pulled the battery again and did the 2 finger reboot and the apps came back.
When people ask me why I joined the class action lawsuit against Acura - this is why. I didn’t spend $55k to stand in the rain in the middle of nowhere to get my car to work.

Weird. I haven’t experienced these issues like you did yet. I did experience audio popping noises when going through CarPlay which required a restart of the infotainment system at times.
I would always try the three button restart option first before pulling any fuses or disconnecting the battery. Much more convenient and usually works for me.
I assume all these stability issues are due to Android itself. It’s always been more unstable than using other platforms like iOS. I’ve used almost every Android OS up until lollipop and it was always more unstable than iOS. My girlfriend uses the Note8 and while she has not experienced any crashing, her phone is starting to get slow.

I thought I was fine until this past weekend. Coming home I was listening to carplay and then all of a sudden the system froze. Turned the car off and the info system was still on. Took it to the dealer. They pulled the switch and nothing. They had to pull the battery to reset it. Lost memory seat settings only. I was told that there is a fix coming but no date as to when.

Pull the battery, fuse or 3-buttons is the way to go. Also I try not to mess around with the infotainment too much. The damn software is unstable and can’t handle changes. I either listen to Bluetooth audio or XiriusXM. Try not to use other advanced features or the thing will crap out. This POS remind me of Ford Infotainment issues many years ago.
This kind of tosses the "infotainment issues don't leave you stranded" argument away now. I guess it is slightly more important than initially expected. Especially if you purchased a vehicle with navigation expecting it to work when you don't have phone service and actually need it.

I would not admonish the car for these infotainment issues, as much as I would Acura/Honda for what seems like a complete lack of acknowledgement, communication and most importantly efforts to resolve it. This is no longer a new or fresh issue. This car is now over a year old and there are people that continue to have issues. This has been my first Honda product and I have to say, while I am glad my issues have been minimal, I am surprised that the vaunted Japanese seem to be so ....absent.

I’m noting that the USB port for the sound system input is a real problem. If I even touch my USB drive in that port, the system goes into “Initializing” mode and it takes 20 seconds or so for the system to go back to where it was before I bumped it.
I also noticed today that when I accidentally forgot to remove my USB drive from the port, and started the car and then I got the “USB failure” message again. I had a non-responsive system until I was able to pull over and restart the vehicle. Turning the power switch on and off doesn’t do any good. The system remains unresponsive in the sound until the engine is turned off and then restarted,
I have maintained my cool in regards to this sound system. I learn its quirks and try to remember them and then I hear you guys here saying “Why should I have to put up with this in a nearly $50K vehicle. I continue to maintain my cool, but am starting to get where many of you are regarding this sound system.
Thanks and blessings to all of you.

My USB gets stuck on "initializing" every time I try playing it after a restart. Also if I start with Sirius playing, the left scroll wheel always says "function not available". I have to remember to always leave the system on FM radio after driving when I shut it off. There's some glitch in the boot up sequence.
