Android, bluetooth, handsfree link

When I connect my samsung s9 to the rdx, the phone part functions well, but any sounds generated by the phone do not play over the cars sound system, and they also do not play on the phone (waze, ok google, nada)
When I turn off bluetooth (handsfree link), sounds come back on the phone.
Shouldn't connecting via the handsfree link allow the use of sound in the car (especially since the sound while in a phone call works just fine when connected via handsfree link. Is there a setting I am missing? I tried setting the "audio" check box on/off in connection settings, no difference.

Maybe this will help. Page 370 of the manual is about phone setup and there is a choice on where the ringtone come from either vehicle or phone.

Thanks, Billy, I tried that, but nope.
All the phone functions (call, receive call, ring, address book) work fine, it's just the audio from the phone that doesn't play from either the phone or the car when connected (waze directions, OK Google, etc).. still looking.

I’m fairly certain that only calls are available via HFL and if you want the waze directions and such to be over the car speakers you have to connect with a sub cable.

But in case im wrong, Do you have a mute button on your phone? Like the iPhone has the switch on the side to switch to muted/vibrate? Make sure it’s not muted.

I don’t know about OK Google, but Waze has settings on how it communicates with your car. Did you try messing with them? (Settings, Sound and Voice)

yup, settings on Waze will redirect audio back to phone after a Handsfree link connect.
Dunno re Google, but I can live with this for now. I'm hoping android auto arrives and does a better job!
Thanks...

I listen to podcasts and use the Bluetooth input for audio from my phone. When in this mode, the audio from the phone including directions and such from Waze or other apps comes through the speakers in the car.
