Android Auto already runs on my phone. Along with Google Maps and/or Waze. (BTW, I think Waze is also owned by Google.) If Google is okay with what they get from my phone, what more do they want from Acura? Smells like bullshit to me.

It's not clear to me how Android Auto will be implemented into the infotainment system. I always assumed the display would just mirror what's on my phone. And I can use the True Touchpad to operate it instead of the touch screen on my phone. Android Auto IS a navigation system. I also assumed it would replace the onboard nav and you use either one or the other. Are you saying it will somehow work along with it? They are separate selections on the home screen.
My understanding is that the issue is getting the True Touchpad interface to function with the app, but I don't know. Because it's completely different than using a "mouse cursor," like Lexus. You have to have the app identify where you are on the screen. That being said, they could just sort of half-ass it like they do with Apple Carplay and just deactivate True Touch within the app. Most likely, they've realized that nobody is really viewing "lack of Android Auto" as a make or break point for purchasing the car, so it's not a priority. People are upset, but not to the point that they'll buy a different car. I realize that some people are really invested in Apple Carplay or Android Auto, but I still think those are a relatively small minority of people.

HERE get some of its traffic information like Google does, through the movements of its reporting devices. So, like Google, et.al. If you want traffic information, you must share your location.

It's all about the interface and nothing more. What Acura created is a first of its kind and we are paying the price for that in various ways.
We understand perfectly. Acura has no freakin' clue when Google will get this done because it's completely out of Acura's hands. Therefore, Acura should never have said that Android Auto is "Coming Soon." They should have waited until it was available and working.
Bingo!! I've been waiting a year--- last date info. was summer 2019.... LOL-- Also I found out their is a class action suit against Honda for infotainment /audio issues- may expand to include Acura---
They supposedly started Rolling out the new aa on certain phones. Even some speculation that a cache refresh might allow your phone to start using it (didn't work with my phone).
Hopefully that means an Ota update may come sooner rather than later.
I got the new APK from APK Mirror. It has the "use the new Android Auto" option but useless without the option in the car. Doesn't do anything yet but hopefully Acura rolls their update out soon.

Just got a message from a reliable contact who is a sales consultant at Acura - they received the following update message from Jon Ikeda today:
“At launch, we stated that Android Auto™ compatibility would be applied to all third-generation (2019+) RDX via a future Over-the-Air (OTA) system update. Recently, we received the final software necessary to make Android Auto compatible with the True Touchpad Interface™. Our engineering team is extremely focused on integrating that software into our update format and completing an independent certification process to ensure good functionality. When these vital steps are completed, which we anticipate to be this fall, we will send out the OTA update, enabling Android Auto™ compatibility in the RDX.”
Looks like now that the new update from Google is out (and provides the required compatibility with the 19/20 infotainment systems), the end is near!

Not to doubt your source but, believe it when it happens.

Two months from now they will say it will be released this winter... (I see a pattern here)

I am hit with the flashing screen issue and when I had the dealer look at it they said it was a known software issue and they were told that a fix was coming "soon". Hearing that it is this fall is very bad news because it means I get to deal with an Infotainment system which goes bonkers twice a month until "Fall". I hope that Acura considers a bug-fix update as an interim release to fix some of the more impactful bugs people are reporting.

Keep in mind, that the term "soon" is a way to cover up that they have zero idea when an update will be released. See my post above... They say fall and then it will be winter... etc.

Would be nice if accurate. At least the name John Ikeda is relative as he is the Acura Division General Manager and not a Dealer Rep or Dealership Employee who I no longer trust to have accurate info. So if this came from him then perhaps something is in the works. I do know that Android Auto was just updated to support wide screens and a large number of newer vehicles so perhaps this bodes well. Would be nice to have Android Auto working before my lease expires. LOL Just started year 2 on August 1st.
When its "in your hand" it is real...other than that its just smoke and mirrors, vaporware. I am not holding my breath on ever seeing this.Or, maybe when they make my squeaking brakes quiet they might also do the Android thing at the same time. Who knows? Meanwhile don't hold your breath!
Keep in mind, that the term "soon" is a way to cover up that they have zero idea when an update will be released.
I've been a Honda fan for decades, but this incident sure has soured me.
Last February, at the Portland Auto Show, I asked a salesman about Android Auto. He looked as his phone to imply a notification was imminent. "Any time now."
I've never put much faith into what car dealers say. Now even more so.
Just updated today on 2020 RDX Advance to include android auto. Can confirm it's working. After plugging your phone in you should get a message saying unplug and plug your device back in to complete update. My Android music player of choice PowerAmp sounds fantastic after this update WOW!
My dealer guy wants me to bring my RTX into the dealership for this update. I'm wondering if anybody else has been told this or if people are just updating at home? If the dealer is tell me to bring it in for an update, that means there's some risk there may be a major issue which is why they want me to bring it in, just curious

This may be obvious or I may have misunderstood your issue, but after getting the update you just have to connect a compatible Android phone. We didn't see any Android Auto icon on the screen either. I checked to make sure that Android Auto was installed on my phone (I looked for it in the Google Play store, and instead of "Install" it said "Open"). When I connected my phone to one of the car's USB ports, it just worked.

My brother (Acura Salesman) told me yesterday his dealership was offering to Update Cars for those not comfortable to do it. Evidently they are getting reimbursed from Acura to provide this service. Probably fallout from all the nonsense that has occurred the past year and a half since the new RDX appeared. IE: Lawsuits, complaints, etc.

So the app needs to already be installed on the phone? Had you downloaded it to your phone previously?
Or are you saying the app resides in the car and the phone lets you open it?
So I tried to update myself, didn't work, no Android Auto icon on the screen. Looks like a trip to the dealership after all.... Grrrrr!
The firmware version is the same as yours. The update just prolongs the agony
If you have already applied the D.1.2.1 update, make sure you also follow the procedure to add the Android Auto icon back to the home screen and HUD (where applicable). See the link below.

I believe that Android Auto is part of the Android OS. On my phone it doesn't show up as an app that I can open, but if I go to the Google Play Store and search for it, it shows me an option to uninstall it. I think I wrote before that it gave me the option to open it, but it's actually the option to uninstall (sorry about that!). The full name shown is "Android Auto - Google Maps, Media & Messaging".
To be clear, I never installed it myself. My phone is a Google Pixel (first generation) that is running Android 10. If your phone has an older version of Android, you may be able to install it manually, but I'm not sure. Good luck!
The App icon instructions worked! It's up and running. Thanks! The crazy thing is I called the AcuraLink help people, they were clueless. Thank God for Forums.
I think I agree with others, the audio sounds way better over USB vs. BT.
One question.... I typically have both Google Maps and Waze Running simultaneous on trips. I don't see Waze on the Apps list. Is there a way to have both G.Maps and Waze on Android Auto?

Not sure if this is only where I'm from but I needed to bring my RDX in for other things (like the sunroof motar died and the front brakes squeak even when it's only a 5-month old 2020) and the service department said it wasn't available. I showed him an article from yesterday that it indeed was so he tried again to search for a software upgrade but nothing was available.. I do have Android Auto downloaded on my phone so just can't find it in the truck. I didn't plug my phone into the middle console like where it works w/ apple play but then again the truck said there's no software update available..
Lastly, what the heck happened to absolute positioning? the track pad works like a regular track pad... I thought the whole reason for wait was Acura's special track pad. Geeeez!

Maybe next week?
Per the information above you have to have D. 1.2.1. If you have that, you have Android auto. Like me, I had to go through the icon update process in the link provided above. Apparently the Android auto icon does not get added automatically. You have to go through their little process, which isn't hard, do you add the icon back to the menu system. If there's no update available, I guess that's just a Canada thing, Acura probably hasn't paid the Canadian tax yet, hahaha

Actually the wait was for google to finish the big refresh that they had for Android Auto since it was going to support widescreen views. now i have no idea why the absolute positioning is not working but i can only assume two options...1: they didnt have enough time to code it to work so that they can get AA out quickly for consumers or 2: it just doesnt work with AA just like carplay.

Just to be clear, I think it's confusing that Acura Interface is absolute and the Android Auto interface is relative (it works like your computer track pad), the AA trackpad is much harder to use. It's hard to believe (IMHO) that NO car manufacturer has got this right!
Just driving around today on Day 2 of my experience, I lost the ability to make calls via Google Assistant (GA). When I say, OK Google, call so-and-so mobile, GA says "Ok let me get you help with that" and then does nothing, The only way I was able to make voice control call was thru Acura's call button on the steering wheel (basically bypassing AA completely). Unless I've got something set up wrong, the AA call features are pretty useless; trying to use the contact directory to make a call is down right dangerous! (eyes off the road!).
Google Maps and better sound quality are both pluses. Everything else, Meh!
Google Assistant is flaky, but I got it fixed. Trackpad still problematic
My GA issue turned out to be phone issue, not a AA issue. I opened GA on my phone independent of AA, messed around with resetting everything. Now it works. If you add plugins and addons, it's easy to push it off into the weeds. It's still nice to know the Acura voice calling works when Google does not!
I still DO NOT like the track pad, having to slide your finger around and check to see what button is highlighted takes your eyes off the road. GA is a must. And the Steering wheel buttons are a must. I just figured out the PLAY/PAUSE button is the button above the VOL+ button, not sure why, but I never used it with my phone on BT, I always tapped the phone. But the play/pause on the steering wheel is essential for hands free.
Acura needs to supplement AA with more choices on sliding trackpad on right IMHO. They also need 2-finger pinch and zoom for Google Maps, the Maps zoom with using the +/- buttons takes way too long, it was easier to pinch and zoom on my phone to see traffic. Controls on the HUD would be nice.
