I currently plug in my iPhone 8 to play my Apple Music using Apple CarPlay, but I'm considering upgrading to the iPhone 13 pro. Anyone have experience with keeping the CarPlay function using wireless or adapters to connect the new phone?

 

I have a 2019 RDX with Advance trim option with the latest infotainment maintenance applied (D1.6.2). I also have an iPhone 12 Pro Max on IOS 15.4.1. I do use wireless CarPlay extensively through a third party component called CarlinKit 3.0 Mini Wireless CarPlay Adapter ordered via Amazon. The positive is that it works pretty well, providing all functionality that I have tried that the wired CarPlay connection provides. I think it has gotten a little better with the latest IOS phone updates in terms of the handshaking at startup but can't elaborate. The negatives are that there is a lag during this handshaking process. It seems to vary, but I would say that it is less than 20 seconds after the CarPlay icon is illuminated on the mainscreen. That illumination is a bit slower also than the wired connection. I can't put my finger on it, but infrequently the handshaking fails and wireless CarPlay is disabled until the car is shutoff and the door is opened and closed. I think it is a little better with the latest infotainment and iphone updates. I also implemented a shortcut on the iPhone that takes me automatically to my favorite playlist on Apple Music after the handshaking is done. From there I can listen to it or go elsewhere in CarPlay or via the infotainment icons. All in all it is a positive, primarily because I don't have to fuss with handling the phone when I get into the car to create a wired connection. Hope this helps.
