I use apple carplay for music and HomeKit (the garage door open automatically pops up when I get to the neighborhood). I say that to say this: mine hasn’t shown many issues at all outside of the one I just described.

There has been an over the air update that came after my one system reboot. I used the system religiously and reliably all last week while traveling for the holiday.

I hope y’all’s gets fixed soon. I know how infuriating sucky infotainment systems can be (I hated mine in the TLX).
When I was signing the docs while picking up m 2020 Advance SH-AWD, the finance guy did the usual "do you want the extended warranty deal..." etc. I declined, and he did his "are you sure? there are lots of electronics in the car; this would cover all that also" sell...I ignored it. After hearing/reading all this, I'm almost regretting not getting it.

That said, I've had the car since 12/20, infotainment has been--knock on wood--working fine except for one random reboot while using CarPlay. Hopefully future software refinements/updates will make the system more stable.

A case can be made for an extended service plan (they're really not warranties), especially if you keep your cars a long time, and given all the electronics, but NOT from the dealer. We got talked into a CNA plan from the dealer for $2,880, but after doing some research we quickly canceled it and bought AcuraCare from Hyannis Honda for $1,705.

Hi All -

New to this forum, and have a brand new SH-AWD Advance! I read all about the Infotainment, but I have to be honest! It has worked perfectly, and even the "Positional" track pad that was trashed by so many reviewers is actually logical.
It takes about a day to get used to it, and I genuinely feel it works great! Trust me, after reading all of the forums etc., I was quite wary when I bought mine, but took the gamble anyway. The car is nice, drives great, has every feature I wanted and a lot I never knew about as well.
It's still a good car, and I hope these issues can somehow be resolved...

BTW - the day I went to the dealer here in Houston, there were at least 2 more RDX vehicles being delivered at the same time. They are selling! And yes, I will be buying Acura Care as well (as someone posted - there's just a lot in this car and I need that protection!)

Regards

Sri

Something that most of us lose sight of in these kinds of discussions is that the average in the car industry is 93 problems for 100 vehicles. The very best automakers still have 60 to 65 problems per 100 vehicles. That means that for everyone that has no problems there is someone with multiple problems. Guess who comes to the forums?

Any car buying decision is about playing the odds. Dealing with problems is one of the considerations when buying a car. If no one bought cars because of a history of problems and the cost of repairing them, Mercedes and BMW wouldn't be in business. The biggest problems with the RDX have been software oriented which can be corrected by firmware downloads over the air as they are fixed. I'll take that any day over known mechanical issues caused by complicated engineering, or poorly functioning infotainment systems that don't ever get updated.

I've been researching the RDX for about 3 months now for a late summer purchase decision. Just joined these forums as part of that research. Never owned an Acura. I keep coming back to the fundamental question - if not the RDX, what? Every other competitor comes with its own issues. It's all a compromise.

Good point! Actually the industry average per JD Power is 136 problems per 100 vehicles.

And adding to that JD Power BS

“problems” typically include folks not knowing how to operate stuff, or “complicated controls” in addition to actual problems.

It seems that folks are eager to join the bandwagon in downgrading Honda’s reputation as a maker of reliable and dependable vehicles when in fact, I’d have a hard time putting too much trust in any of these new cars beyond their new car warranties.

2020 Acura RDX A-Spec

Just bought a 2020 RDX A-Spec late in October and didn’t have any issues with the infotainment until 1,500 miles later. Screen not turning on after start up, audio going in and out when the screen decides to work, radio unavailable, no audio connection for FM radio, network communication lost. Took this to the dealer twice, and of course, receiving the same answer everyone else is getting about it being a software issue. Only thing they can do is a hard master reset of the system. Problems immediately happen after slight bump on the road after leaving the dealership. This has been by far the worst experience. Can’t even enjoy this car when all I can think about is the infotainment not working.

Maybe the 2023's will be better....lol. Reading this Forum and others and lots of professional reviews, I'm sorry to say I can't, in good conscience, feel comfortable with buying this car.....very disappointing because I really wanted to be a buyer.

4500 miles in...

4500 miles in...still no infotainment issues. Squeaky brakes after the car’s been sitting for a bit. That’s it. *knocks on wood*

I think that looking at the date of those reviews is very important given that the infotainment problems are addressed with software updates.

I'm curious which professional reviews you've read? I've been trying to read as much as possible also. The YouTube car reviewers that do long video reviews on cars are all very positive about it (I've watched at least 7 of them).

I'm curious- has this been resolved? My 2019 is an ongoing headache despite multiple "fixes" and am beginning to think about a 2020, unless that infotainment system is the same buggy POS as the '19.

Not sure if others have seen this, but I found the following info on the NHTSA site under the 2020 Acura RDX, Manufacturer Communications, regarding the class action lawsuit for the infotainment systems.

Clicking on the www.infotainmentsettlement.com link provides detailed information.

This settlement also applies to:
  • 2018 and 2019 Honda Odyssey
  • 2019 Honda Pilot
  • 2019 Honda Passport
Summary:

The Named Plaintiffs allege that the Settlement Class Vehicles’ Infotainment Systems suffered from software and hardware defects that caused the systems to frequently freeze, crash, fail to boot up, fail to shut down, or suffer intermittent failures to connect to peripheral devices (such as phones and mp3 players). Plaintiffs allege that AHM should have disclosed the defects prior to sale or remedied the defects under warranty within a reasonable period of time after sale. AHM expressly and vigorously denies the allegations in the Litigation, including the allegation that the Infotainment Systems in Settlement Class Vehicles suffer from any defect whatsoever. AHM further denies that it has engaged in any wrongdoing, and specifically denies all claims described above and asserted in the Litigation.

Part of the settlement states that American Honda Motor Co. will extend the warranty for 2 years or 24,000 miles "to cover qualified Infotainment System Symptoms".

For more details, go to the link and review the information provided.

For me, I constantly have issues with the USB audio system and have had the system restart one time while we were in the midst of navigating on a road trip. Luckily it wasn't at a critical point on our journey.

I'm not sure this is a big help. Acura doesn't seem to be able to reliably fix all the Gen 3 RDXs with infotainment system issues now, how will adding 2 year and 24,000 miles to the warranty help? SMH
