Do not find yourself in Gorda, CA and running low on gas.
On the bright side though, there is no waiting in line at the pump.

Yikes - must be a captive market, no competition or very low supply. It's currently $3.25 - 3.35 in Charlottesville, VA

It’s the only gas station in the area. Driving south, the next closest gas station is 40 miles away. At this point they’re famous for having the highest gas prices; there are people who will fill up there strictly to take pictures and show that they’ve paid $8/gallon for gas.

I had read about this place having the highest prices in the nation and since we were going to be driving by I couldn't pass up the opportunity for a picture. Plus it makes paying our local $4.50 a gallon almost seem like a bargain.😧

Is that per litre? (Note the "continental" spelling.)

This is from the same station this past Monday. I'm wondering if they're maxed out on the price of premium or can the pump be programed to move the decimal?

That reminds me of the 'oil crisis' back in the 70s when the price went over 99.9 cents/gal. and pumps didn't have enough digits. Many places priced it at half the per gallon price so they doubled what the pump said which led to lots of issues for the math illiterates. Others went to liters which caused all kinds of issues since the vast majority of Americans had (have) no idea how much is in a liter...and some places took advantage of it to rip people off. Pumps then were almost all mechanical, no digital readouts.
But $10/gal.? That's just robbery. It's over $5 here in the Phoenix area after dropping into the high $2's a few weeks ago. And oil companies are making record profits...don't get me started.

Or maybe it's the view?

Typical for a remote area, they can charge you what they want - as when choices are limited or zippo competition - you need it, you'll pay dearly for it. Add in CA has some of the highest prices for petrol in the USA too.
It's not petrol stations. There are EV stations (since the kWh pricing is not regulated) where they charge a "big connection fee" then a high kWh fee - regardless of how much you use them.
Gas buddy is a good app that can tell you the prices for gas stations in any area and along your route.
If the RDX was a powerful Hybrid that got 38+mpg on the hwy - you would be so shocked or have to fill up. We can all dream...

This road is very popular with out of state/country tourists that aren't familiar with the area. I think that many are so busy looking at the scenery and ocean views that they get caught between a rock and a hard place when they realize that they're low on gas and might not have enough to make it to the next gas. I feel especially sorry for those poor people driving one of those rental motor homes when they pull in here.

Please keep politics out of the forum.
There's enough misinformation here s it is.

When I saw this earlier this week, I thought it would be fun to post a picture in contrast to the high prices in the picture that OP @GW208 posted.
I remember paying about 28 or 29 cents a gallon (lower during "gas wars") when I started driving, and yes, full service, they checked the oil and washed the windshield, AND gave savings stamps as well.

While I'm old, I guess not the oldest on here. I remember my first car, a '69 Buick Wildcat that got 8MPG's on Ethel. That's Premium to you young'uns. At 60c/gal, that equates to about $2.25/gal against a vehicle from today that gets 30/MPG's. Gas is about 2x that much currently. Luckily, I make more than 2x what I did back then.
