Maybe some of you up north could help with this. Whenever we expect snow and/or ice down here in the Chicago area, we try to leave our wipers in the "up" position (somewhere on the glass) so we can easily clean around them or get them unstuck from the glass. The old tried and true trick was to pulse the wiper and then turn off the car. Unfortunately, with the RDX, the wiper returns to the well at the bottom of the windshield. I've tried a couple of different things but nothing works. Anyone suggestions?

By the way, the wiper design with the hood is truly stupid engineering. You can't get the wipers out of the well far enough to remove the snow without actually opening the hood. The designers must have all been born and raised in southern states. Knuckleheads....

There is a heater at the base of the windshield to mitigate this.

 

Not in the US of A.

 

I use something similar to this when snow or sleet is in the forecast. No need to raise your wipers.

 

Winter driving survival test:

Remove frozen slush from the driver's-side windshield wiper in the following fashion:

• While driving at moderate speed, roll down driver's-side door window.

• Start wipers.

• Reach around the window frame, grab the wiper when it swings around to that side, pull it away from the windshield and let it smack back into the windshield with its spring action.

• Repeat until the wiper is clean. Or until your fingers freeze solid, whichever comes first.

 

 

By putting the blades in service mode and pulling them up for the night so they wont stick, you can't remote start the car to warm it up, the blades will rip the hood... STUPID DESIGN.

Spray deicing fluid on the windshield before it snows or after while you have the heat on defroster including the blades. I do it every winter before it snows and it help a lot.

In general, (not RDX related), start the car with fan in the defrost mode, while waiting slightly tap the wipers with a snowbrush to loosen the ice, give it 1 or 2 minutes and start driving, ice should start to melt as the windshiled warms up. Never understood the wipers in the up right position thing.

 

yep and if it gets very windy..can break off the arms....which is more $$$ to fix than wiper blades

 

Snow sensing didn't work well on my previous IS 250 either. It did very well with rain.

Remote start, especially with Auto Climate on, would help melt the ice. But just in case for winter driving, pack one of these (or similar de-icer) in the car, and one in the house or backpack/bag (in case the car's doors are iced shut parking outside).

 

On my new 2021 the wipers stay in the maintenance position even though you have started the vehicle, I have to manually turn them off to get them to park, so I can use the remote start with my vehicle. Have you tried starting the vehicle after the wipers were put in the maintenance mode?
