Windshield tint and HUD?

Will tinting my windshield affect my ability to see my HUD?

When i wear my sunglasses that are polarized it’s hard to see the HUD, will the reflection of the HUD be affected by tint?

Yes it will. In addition, I know of no state where tinting the windshield is legal.

No impact on the HUD that I can tell. Ceramic "Air" tint is practically undetectable to the untrained eye.

I would think if there is any Polarizing Agents in the Tint the result could be the same as the Sunglass effect, but I do not know a lot about what is in the Tint?

I wear polarized prescription sunglasses and I have no problem seeing the HUD. You should makes sure the polarization of the two lenses is the same. I once had a pair where they were misaligned by almost 90 degrees. I could see it immediately by looking at sun glare off water and tilting my head. The effect was different between both eyes. I confirmed it with a polarizing filter for my camera. I went back and had them redo the glasses.

I never heard of after-market tinting being polarized.

Polarized sunglasses not good for seeing led, that's why no airplane pilot allow to wear it..

Some computer displays and phones are hard to see with polarized sunglasses. You have to rotate or angle them slightly.

Any light reflected off glass, water or a painted surface is polarized. Hence, the HUD image is polarized. Normally, I don't have a problem seeing the HUD but if I rotate my sunglasses a little or tilt my head, I can make the reflected image disappear.

My mirrored Costa sunglasses are pretty dark (I fish the ocean), so when I drive I just turn the HUD brightness up a few clicks to make up the difference. Works for me.

I can see the HUD but I have to twist my head a little, I think I may go into the shop, have them put a piece of tint in front of the HUD and see if I can see it or not, I would plan to get 60% ceramic.

Hard to believe that a 60% tint on the windshield is legal anywhere but I don't know.

has nothing to do with the darkness of your sunglasses as long as it's not polarized, polarized glasses just don't work well with HUD and anything digital...

Agreed. I'm trying to find some clip-ons that aren't polarized. So far, it hasn't been easy. The ones I currently use (from Wally World) fit my glasses perfectly, but are polarized. During the bright sunshine we get here, I almost forget the car has HUD (unless I tilt my head to the right) ...OR...until I drive at night! WOW! Nice HUD!

All Costa lenses are polarized. My progressive lenses are blue mirrored 580p. I can view the HUD AOK as long as the brightness is around 80%.

In TX the law isn't clear. Literally. It says you can have a 'clear' coating on the windshield but then it does not define what clear means. Even the glass itself isn't clear. The law that governs windshield say they have to pass 70% of the light that goes through them. So many interpret that to mean a TLT of 70% is legal. Both my wife and I have a 80% tint on our windshields and have been through many inspections without issue. I've never had anyone in the car that could even tell there is a tint on the windshield. I know there are some that are almost emotional about this topic. Not looking for an argument, just stating what's on my car. It cuts down on heat and glare from other cars which helps with my migraines. Even in TX with a Dr prescription you can't have any 'tint' below the line near the top of the windshield.

Isn't the HUD windshield different from the non-HUD windshield?

Accordingly, I can't imagine that windshield tint won't affect the HUD - regardless of tint laws.

I don't think the windshield in the Advance is different from any of the other trims. They're all "acoustic glass", except the Advance has it on the front side windows also.

The tint won’t affect the hud. I have done it on my past two vehicles.

Tinting does NOT affect the visibility of the HUD, at least with Ceramic "Air" (~80% VLT) tint. Even darker tint should be fine for the HUD, but there is a risk that police would notice your windshield being darker than usual. The Ceramic Air tint is like not having any tint at all from a darkness perspective, but you do get a noticeable reduction in heat from the sun.
