What Type Oil Used In Acura Maintenance Program?

Anyone know what type of oil the dealer uses for the complimentary maintenance program? Do they cheap out out avoid using full synthetic? What's best for the vehicle (2024 RDX)?

usually its bulk 0w-20 that meets API specifications which dealerships get at discount from a distributor. There is also Honda OEM oil, but it’s not likely to be used for maintenance contract due to its cost.
its also not clear if Honda OEM oil is anything special.
most 0w-20 is synthetic, though some synthetic blends have been seen before.

whats best, it depends. People have their preferences about brands, and viscosities….

I just got back from dropping the vehicle off at the dealer. From my discussion it appears that they use full synthetic. Also, to my surprise, the service writer said they would do the diff fluid and change the engine and cabin filters at no charge. I think it's some kind of program for CPOs.

Complimentary maintenance program that is free of charge? Are you sure you did not purchase separate maintenance package?

I will tell you a secret (not really), full synthetic oil is not really synthetic, but more of a marketing gimmick following lawsuit between Mobil and Castrol sometime in 90s.
The true full synthetic oil is only made by few companies such as Amsoil, HPL and few others.

today, it’s difficult to find oil without words “full synthetic”, so its pretty much a useless thing.

for 0w-20, I dont think you can buy one that is not synthetic even if you want to

No, I definitely didn’t buy a maintenance package. All Acuras get free oil changes and tire rotations for first 2yrs. or 24k miles. My CPO’s original service date was July 2024 so my program will expire in July 2026 (November 2024 purchase). I hope to get 2 more services before then.

Surprised me too! I was armed with my discount coupon but didn't need it. Very happy with the service I received. I picked a service advisor that had good reviews on Yelp. He was great. Of course they did try to get me to buy an "engine treatment" and "fuel system treatment" for $70 total but I didn't bite LOL.
