The purpose of HUD is so you can keep your eyes on the road and not have to look down or at the navi screen. You can also control what information is displayed in the HUD. I only have speed and street signs show. Additionally you can dim HUD so it isn't as distracting. Lots of options.

I'm surprised by how many people don't think it's a good idea or even could be considered a safety feature. Oh well, I know I like it, find it extremely helpful and would consider it a key feature for any future car purchases.

As someone mentioned above, I feel bad for manufacturers for having to decide which features would attract or detract potential buyers while keeping costs in check.

My 2001 bonneville SSEI had the HUD and it was great. Now the rest of the car not so much..lol
got rid of it after 2.5 years bought a 03 TL-S and never will buy GM again

Everyone should have a "Banned-For-Life* list. Mine is pretty short but GM is on it.

Agreed. Even my Volt, which is supposedly one of the most reliable cars they've made has left me stranded on the side of the road twice.

I wouldn't go banned-for-life on Subaru but I probably wouldn't consider one. They are slugs. My first new car was an '82 DL hatchback. Pretty bare bones but I put 144,000 miles on it and it served me well. The few thing that did go wrong were cheap and easy to fix. Until one day, the distributor cracked. Not the cap, the distributor housing itself. Breaker-point ignition back then. Easy to replace but $500 for the part in 1989. OUCH!! Either I spend the $500 or throw the car away. The last time I drove one was a rental about 10 years ago down in Florida. They are still slugs. They're great in the snow and that's why they're so popular in Northern New England and the upper Midwest.

The Subaru was an alternative to an '82 Chevy Citation. I came within inches of buying the Citation before the puke salesman pissed me off and I pulled a Costanza and walked out. Remember the GM X-Body cars? I shudder to think actually buying that car. GM would still owe me a car. My previous GM experiences was a '71 Nova I got from my father and my wife's '78 Monte Carlo. Both great cars and probably two of the last great cars GM made. Fortunately, I was never personally burned by a GM purchase but knowing friends who owned them in the '80s and '90s was enough to learn my lesson. I knew a few guys who worked in the Tarrytown plant back then too. Not only did they make dreadful cars back then but the whole company was fucked up from top to bottom. Probably still is.

Yeah, I used to race a 69 442, a 66 Nova, and a 69 Camaro and they were all great cars and easy to work on.


​​​​​​I also had an 85 IROC z28 and the t-tops leaked profusely and the fix that the dealer did was put silicone goo all around the seal which was great when you took it off then you had silicone all over your hands.

I ended up traiding that in on an 88 legend which was probably the best Acura I ever had. Ended up selling it which I regretted and bought that Bonneville which I really regretted so no more GM for me

Camaros and Firebirds were some of the worst cars ever made. But, people kept buying them anyway. If they didn't care, why should GM? Until the insurance rates on those cars exploded in the '90s. That's what it took to kill those cars. When Pontiac stopped production on the Firebird they had over a 600 day supply.

Yes I do, we purchased a new Buick Skylark in 82 and after nearly 40 years I had almost forgotten about it. Now, thanks to your reminder, I will probably have to carry that painful memory to my grave.😧

I thought the rear camera on the Advance was lower resolution than the rest of the line up. That and the wheels I think are the biggest negatives.

I would like to upgrade to the advance model on my next purchase specifically for the HUD. While there are certainly many other features in the advance like rain sensing wipers, ventilated and more adjustable seats, wood trim, upgraded audio system, etc, I can't see spending an additional $5400 over the Tech model. The MSRP around here is $44125 for the tech, and $49525 for the advance.

I would take a lesser model if it had the HUD. The auto high beam thing is a bit spooky, and though the auto wipers are cool I managed to operate them all by myself for decades. But aside from the dreaded touch pad, we're really enjoying all the Advance features anyway.

I have had one Ford, a '66 Mustang money pit in the '80s, and two GMs, the first being a '66 Corvair Corsa (with many handling upgrades) that was awesome until it wasn't and a '78 Cutlass wagon in the '80s. Ford and GM are on my don't bother list. But we're slow learners: Dart, Duster, '70 Barracuda, a couple of Caravans and a full-size Ram Van - we got to know way too much about the service advisers' family lives because of all our regular visits. So add Chrysler/FCA/Stellantis to the don't bother list. Then along came Honda. Cue the beautiful music and the long-haired lasses in white gowns sprinkling rose petals in our path.
