Last week at the production debut of the new RDX it was announced that the 2.4L a-specs would be "arriving at dealers next week" - however no mention of these models on the Acura website. Anyone have any info on this?

 

Apparently, the '19 TLX goes on sale tomorrow. Looks like the V6 Tech and Advance get new 19" wheels, Black Copper Pearl is discontinued and Platinum White Pearl replaces Bellanova White Pearl.

I agree, don't they usually release non-MMC/FMC models in the fall usually? Seems suspiciously early.

That's exactly what I was told at my dealer last week, i.e., the 2020 FMC gets released in Fall 2019, including the new Type S.

 

This is super exciting...i have a lot of hope in the next TLX.

Few highlights:
- Completely redesigned - so the body will be more cohesive
- A-SPEC
-Type S with 350-400HP (I am hoping)
- Brand new interior design

 

I was going to stop shopping this month, but if the new TLX would be released in 2019, that would make me hold off. Now do I gamble and wait?? That's the question. I do think the next model should be a complete 180 in terms of tech. Styling is always subjective, but I do like the look of the current model (except that huge emblem..which won't be getting any smaller if you look at the RDX). But I do like the updates to the exterior of the RDX, so I have hopes that the styling would be attractive.

 

My SA, who is a true car guy and knows what he's talking about, said that the Type S will have 350-400 hp, will have a completely new exterior look and an interior based on the Precision concept (similar to the forthcoming RDX in terms of infotainment controls). No word on Type S transmissions, but it will definitely have SH-AWD, he said.

 

I'm just really crossing my fingers they don't f-$# it up. RDX is a good indicator of the future.

 

Perfect. My lease on my '17 TLX is up in May 2020 - can't come any faster.. 1 year with this TLX and am really bored with it. Hopefully the taillights on the new TLX aren't as unpopular as with the new Accord.

 

By "new TLX", are you talking about the FMC or the next generation TLX?

 

 

The 2019 TLX will be exactly like the 2018, for the most part. I'm sure a couple of color changes will happen and the addition of the 2.4L A-Spec version. That's it...from my GM who is a good friend. So, with him giving a big discount I just bought a white/red A-spec. Didn't want to wait. Love the car. I have a '19 RDX A-Spec on the way...same colors. Wife's choice.
2020 models will be the big change it appears. With the addition of the Type S, Acura vehicles are finally getting exciting. We all were told there will be a turbo V6 developed....I guess for the Type S, which would really jack up the pricing I'm sure. But, should an awesome car, and quick!!

 

congrats on the new a-specs! I am strongly considering the '19 RDX based on the info/shots that have been circulating so far. IMO the white A-Spec is the best looking, so good choice.

Apparently the 2.4L A-Spec will not have any changes under the hood (i.e. suspension tuning) like the V6 model does. looks like it will be even more cosmetic than the 6 cylinder model. slightly disappointing

Thank you. The RDX A-spec buy does have a caveat attached. ONLY IF I like how it drives with the new eng/rans combo, and IF I get the trade deal I can work with. It would be my 5th Acura from my GM, so I am
expecting the $$ will work out. Just not sure about the new RDX. On paper it has more positives than negatives. IF I don't truly "like it" then I'm not obligated to buy it. I would be the first to get a white/red A-spec on
his first order, which, has only 1 of these. The 2.4L A-spec is new to me and thus I don't know what it will have compared to my V6 version. A-specs are buy design, mostly cosmetic, but, there are some cool things
done to make it really fun to drive, and it looks better than the std. TLX. My suspension is great and handling is way better than I thought it might be. When changing "Drive Modes" the steering buy design is supposed to
change it's "feel" but, it's hard to really notice much change, when going from Normal to Sport mode. My GM drives one, and he can't tell the difference either. But, I do like Sport +, where I can take control of the shifting
with the paddles. I've had paddles in my 3 second gen RDX's and I enjoy using them.

I would seriously suggest to lease to buy. The TLX had lots of problems in the first year. RDX has a huge amount of new tech but mechanically should be a little better than when the ZF9 came along.

Same for Type S, new v6 turbo with a possiblely new tranny.

 

Thanks for the suggestion, but, since I'm an "old car guy" and am approaching 40 new cars, and over 60 plus vehicles owned...and lots of experience with Acura, I will "roll the dice" on the '19, again IF I like it after a complete review by
me. Actually, my GM had asked me long before I was even thinking about getting a '19 RDX, to review the '19 for him when it arrives. He said I really want your opinion and views on all that you like and don't like with the RDX. He
said, I'll hand you the keys and you "do your thing." Make notes of all the good and not so good issues. Then, that triggered my inner "car guy" to start looking at the A-Spec version...since I had recently bought an '18 TLX A-Spec.
So, I told him I just might want a white/red one. He had 1 that was on order, and that it was mine, IF I wanted it, after evaluating. Works for me.

I don't lease. Did that once and is not my thing. I go through a lot of vehicles and sometimes the turnover is short. Again...."roll the dice" if there may be issues with it for a first year redo. I never had issues with my '13 RDX...first year
redo like some did. But, to me there was nothing truly "serious or a big deal" with the '13 RDX's. My wife drove it everyday...and we loved it. So, we'll see IF I buy one and then the adventure will begin!!
I'm already not liking the fact that a CD option has been taken away in the new updated ELS system. But, that's me..and I'm sure will tick off others too.

 

The manager at my local dealer told me a few weeks back that 2021/2022 will bring in the next gen. From what John Ikea said the Type S will be focused on performance so many here should get there wish. Realistically the next gen will be out mid to late 2020 or at worst the following year. I would guess with the uptick in TLX sales and past model updates it is a couple years off, so maybe mid 2020. I hope earlier but I think they do the normal 3 years from the mid cycle update. This is what I was told exactly "My understanding is that the TLX won’t have a significant change until the 2021 or 2022 model. So, those would be released in calendar year 2020 or 2021. That is also when the Type-S model would be introduced. If something changes, I’ll let you know.".

 

Given that the TLX has been out since August 2014 I would be shocked if Acura waited any longer than August/September 2019 for the release of the 2nd gen TLX. Especially with the 2018 Accord essentially rendering the TLX an inferior vehicle (at least in regards to tech). Further, not that it's any proof, as many dealers tell different things, but when I leased my 2017 TLX my dealer (Cerritos Acura) sounded pretty confident that by the time my lease was up in May 2020 the new TLX would already be here. Again, none of this is conclusive proof obviously but to me, this timeline makes the most sense.

 

Forgot to mention that the 2019s were due to hit dealers today, which seems to make the 2020 MY being the 2nd gen more probable IMO

 

Hope you're right. Then I can wait a little while since I planned on keeping the A-spec for at least a couple years and if they release early I can wait for the incentives. I think the RDX will be out early but its a full refresh and been running like 6 years as is normal for Acura. One thing I will say is the manager at my local dealer told me way ahead on what the mid cycle update would be. He also told me way back that every model would be coming out with an A-Spec package. He goes to the dealer meetings with Acura corporate so I assume he is in the know as much as anyone. Time will tell. The TLX mid model update is at this point not even a year out. My guess is it will be near end of year if not welll into next before anything certain is known. The A-spec overall was a nice update and very needed.

 

 

Updated, yes, but still not on par with what the Accord offers, namely the digital instrument cluster, HUD and NFC compatibility. Agree re: the looks of the Accord - not a fan of the back, although it does look slightly better in person. Also I'd imagine the lack of attractive lease options (at least compared to the Camry) is another factor in the disappointing sales trend for the Accord thus far.

 

 

I suspect the P245/40 19" tires vs the P225/55 17" tires will have some impact on handling. Those are the two sizes on the 2018 Canadian ASpec and non ASpec models, which I assume would remain on the 2019 Canadian version and be new for the 2019 US model.
