Test drive impressions
I was able to take a test drive in the 2019 RDX Advance Saturday evening.
- When I walked up from the rear to the steel gray color 2019 RDX I thought it was a 2018 RDX
- From the side and front theres no question it’s masculine in design
- Black interior with whiteish piping was classy looking
- The leather on the 16 way seats is supple
- The seats top bolsters are motorized , I was told is the basic difference from the 12 way
- The interior is not cramped like thought it might be from internet pictures
- Very spacious even with the new console
- I liked the panoramic sunroof and the sunshade is motorized and totally solid not perforated like the Porsche Macan and it can be stopped in any position to divide the sunroof’s opening
- Fat nicely shaped steering wheel with good manual adjustment
- I drove it about 5 miles on city streets in normal, sport and mostly in sport +
- It is very quick and torquey
- The power is always right there
- I didn’t detect any noticeable turbo lag but that may be because my 2011 RDX has a hint of lag and I’ve learned to compensate for it
- Brakes have good feel and the steering is quick
- The push button gear shift was easy to use - I thought it would be odd but it’s very simple and has some fail safe built in in case you neglect to put it in Park
- The automatic parking brake switch is on the lower left dash and was a bit strange to use but it should be easy to learn
- The heads up display is great but at times it was distracting but it can be turned off
- It had no window sticker and the rep hadn’t heard of a price yet and no brochure either
- My 2011 RDX is a tech and this 2019 RDX has pretty much the same features - the mouse control makes it more complicated to control -but most of those things are pretty much set and forget - but it is a coolness factor
- The hood is a bit higher than my 2011 but the front corners of the car are easier to estimate
- There is no cd - it has blue tooth and jacks
- The sound system is killer and the car has better sound deadening than my 2011
- There new hidden storage in the rear area and amazingly there is a compact spare that stores under the car and drops down
- Personally I think this is a Home Run

I'm worried about the steering wheel feedback. On the current model I thought it felt 'loose' and disconnected from the road. I couldn't feel the road and what the vehicle was doing. That wouldn't compare to the Germans and that was the decisive point for me.
I hope they figured out they had to offer a responsive and precise steering to even be in the competition.

the rep was driving it to a dealership in Grand Junction that night , he had driven up from New Mexico the night before.
