Speed limit display

Can anyone tell me how the car knows what the speed limit is? I thought that when the camera sees a speed limit sign, it then displays it. However, our dealer said the camera is not involved. Instead, he told me it is connected with the GPS location. and GPS data.
As I see the display change the moment we pass a speed limit sign, this makes no sense to me. Can anyone clear this up?
Thanks to all for the help!

Have you read the manual? It’s explained there and there a probably YT videos that explain it also.

My 2022 RDX doesn't have navigation but I can tell you that when I'm driving within about 20 to 30 feet of passing a speed limit sign the dash display changes. Read my comments (#13) in the thread at Speed limits. In my case, since I pass a Route 100 sign here in Pennsylvania almost daily, and the dash display goes to a 100 mph speed limit, I would say at least with a vehicle without a navi system, the camera definitely reads the sign.

There is a setting in the menus. It can either use the camera, or use the speeds stored in the navigation map.
