Did the update Wednesday morning. Went smoothly. Don't know if its all in my head but the infotainment system overall seems less derpy and loads up more quickly.
I'd have problems with the navi core not loading (sometimes not at all, other times it'd be a full two minutes for it to load) and that seems to be gone.
Using the left spin knob on the steering wheel to change sirius stations would sometimes throw an error message up in the HUD. Thats gone.
Carplay would be hit/miss recognizing the plugged in iPhone or displaying the right album art for the currently playing song. That seems sorted out as well.
Overall, I'm pretty happy.
i agree the startup of CarPlay is faster but sorry to say that within a couple days of using after the update the album art glitch is still an issue as well as intermittent connection error.
Go to developer menu (Three-finger menu->Select lower button->Another three-finger hold), select "USB Mode Switch" and toggle to ADB then back to CarPlay.
I was checking things out in amplifer section to see speaker state, and it shows front theaters are red, but they still seem to work in a sound test.

Read it closely. It describes really what is going on. Must use cellular connection. If you don't update by Feb there will not be a 3g signal available to use to update, so you will need to replace the TCU. Also tells you how to verify the TCU version.

Updated. Update went smooth. Unfortunately, my issue which disables USB port if car is put in reverse immediately when car started (cold) is not resolved. Will mention to dealer when I go there next time
You're right, I was under the impression that this update resolved it at first, but it does not.
My current workaround is to let the device connect via bluetooth at first, and then plug in CarPlay after a minute or so. I've been able to get CarPlay to connect successfully if I go this route, while throwing the car into reverse immediately after start up. It's not ideal, but at the moment it's the smoothest way of going about it for me.
I'm still getting that crackling sound after the dealer replaced a connector, so I'm thinking I'll mention that when I bring it in for service.

I dont think it makes any difference if you connect before you start the car, or after start and connect blue tooth. If camera is engaged while system boots, the USB port becomes screwed up. I will mention to
dealer next time I am there, you should do also. If enough info gets to Acura, they might be able to fix it in the next update.

It seems Acura is doing it wrong, for such importnat update, they should force roll it. I cant believe that they will leave it at mercy of individual to handle this. After February of next year, I bet than 80% of RDXes will be bricked because of that and end up consting them thousands of dollars. Just like their infotainment system is sh.t, their approach to prevent a disruption is also sh.t. They really need to invest in IT /DepOps if they want to offer relavant tech in their cars comes next generation.

They stated that if you fail to update by Feb, they will be charging people. So dont worry about Acura bottom line…
Why do you have to do it on celular only? I am from Europe, got, the car from USA, is there any way to update it using usb if it can't be done on Wifi?

I have the exact same issue. Made an appointment to get it fixed. Waited a week, took it in this morning. They could NOT fix it. They gave me my car back and said they had to "call California" to get info on what to do. They would call me later in the week.

Maybe the server is not aware that your infotainment has been updated to latest version. Does the System Update app say the OTA was installed successfully?

Well.......... I brought it in. They kept it overnight. They called the next day and said it was fixed. I picked it up and sure enough, it was not stuck at 'Step 6 of 6'. However, it is not remembering my phone. Everytime I set it up with the car, it takes, then it forgets on the next start. I have to try to 'forget' the phone and then re-link it. That might work. Otherwise, it seems to be fine.

It was very odd, as they did not let me see the paperwork or sign anything. For me, that's pretty unusual. They basically handed me my fob and said "All set, see ya'"
It would be interesting to see how they wrote it up. I would bet they are charging back quite a bit to the Acura Homeworld
What is the most current update version? I installed a system update the other day (had already pre-downloaded for me) and I just installed it. It was a successful update. I am just wondering if that is the 'most current' update though. The last thing I want is a bricked system in February.

Once again, no fix included for my random USB drive invisibility issue. Oh well, we do have a heavy duty starter motor so restarting the engine just to see the USB drive again is not a big deal.

No. This error just happens randomly when restarting with the USB drive as the active source. I get the error as soon as the system fully boots -- often before any gear selection. Happens approximately 20% of the time. I initially thought it happened if I opened the door before shutting off ignition, but it's not repeatable. I can't see a pattern of when it happens.

No, I haven't. I guess it could be the drive, but the fact that it works most of the time makes me *assume* it's the infotainment unit. I've had a variety of other random -- now you see it, now you don't -- bugs in this vehicle so my immediate assumption was this being another one. But, you are correct that I can't say that for sure without trying another drive.

its probably the car… I can make USB unusable by simply putting car in reverse while system boots, it seems everyone has this issue. I contacted acura about it, and told them that I am willing to help them, their response was to bring car to a dealer…. As if dealer can do anything about it. They could have at least checked with their engineering team, standard BS responses…

(NOTE: Replying to my own quote for those who experience the same issue I had as noted above) - I was able to get the car to remember the phone (after having the dealer fix the Stuck-On-Step-6-of-6 Upgrade lock-up loop issue) by 'forgetting' all phones in the system, then re-linking my phone. That did the trick
And after sitting in a parking lot for 20 minutes or so, engine off, Step 6 finally completed. Though I haven't tried any of the features listed above, it was a great disappointment to me to find that the car's map once again still defaulted to the 500 foot range instead of the setting last used. (Yes CarPlay and Google and Apple Maps are available if I plugged the phone it, we use the built in maps for general directions in the various cities around us.) Well, at least we're past that dreaded 3G wireless shutdown. (Had the house alarm updated last month.)
FYI.. As someone who made a snarky remark about Acura still using 3G tech for in-vehicle voice and data, here is a large (but not complete) list of brands that also use 3G. Our vehicles are not alone, but, it looks like the 3rd gen RDX is one of the few current models still relying on 3G -- until MY2022. Most brands on the list ended 3G use several MYs earlier.

I also got warning email to take action with my VIN to update. I updated weeks ago, and you would think they should know who updated and who did not. They should be sending targeted emails to those who did not upgrade, mass email makes it confusing for everyone

I had success installing the update Saturday. This was the first time it worked. All other attempts since I had the car failed.

UPDATE: Did the Hardware Reset Multiple Type.. disconnected WIFI, Reconnected.. and still the same result. The software on the infotainment system is indeed 1.6.2 but when I go into System Updates is is on step 6 of 6 and I never get an indication that it completed successfully. It seems as if other have been able to do the three finger salute and reset the hardware but so far it does not work for me.
I have called the dealer and am awaiting a response back. Does anyone know of an Acura Support forum or phone number to reach out to?
I called Acura and they sent me to the Tech Department. I spoke to a really helpful person that helped with some steps to resolve the issue. Here they are. I thought they were going to have me do something around the three finger salute, but it was not. Here are the steps:
Go into System Settings and Set Date to something about 6 months ahead of today - mine was set to grab date automatically
Turn the car off and open and close the door to shut down the system
Go Into System Updates and try to initiate the update. It will fail after attempting.
Manually set the date to today
Turn the car off and open and close the door to shut down the system
Go back into System Update and Update again. This time it will start at step 3 and will complete successfully -- at least it did for me
