Which direction opens the air vent, do I turn the vent wheel to where the white dotted lines are visible or do I turn it the other way where the white dotted lines are not visible? See attached pictures.
Think of things this way and making reference to your second image. The small round symbol represents minimal air flow, the large rectangle at the opposite end of the dial represents maximum air flow. That being said, if your system is set to auto, and the desired temp is say 72 deg F, and the vehicle internal temp is 73 deg F, not much air will come out of the various air vents. If you like air blowing in your face (like my wife does) you will have to go to a manual mode that allows you to select fan speed.

I have to select fan speed just to get air from the outside to come thru the vent? I am not talking about turning the AC on. I usually don't like to have the air circulate so I like to have fresh air from the outside come thru the vents. On my TSX, I never have this issue. I just turn off the air circulation icon and I get air from the outside coming thru the vents, but on my RDX, when I turn off the air circulation, there is no air coming from the outside thru the vents at all.

Do you get airflow from these face vents when you manually select them? Are you living in a cold climate area that requires you to heat your vehicle at this time of year?
In auto mode, when warming is required, airflow will be directed to the floor vents, because that warm will rise towards the ceiling, resulting in overall interior heating.
If warm air were to come from the face vents, it would continue to rise upwards, and collect around the ceiling, resulting in no heat around the passenger's feet.
When cooling is required, then the air is directed towards the face vents, since the cool air will then fall towards the floor. This process results in overall cooling of the cabin
I can confirm that when I am trying to heat my vehicle, that absolutely no air comes from the face vents. There is a small amount of air that comes from the small vents which point at the side windows, in order to minimize fogging.
SOLVED!! I needed to select the arrow pointing to the face on the climate control to get air from the outside to come in through the vents.I should have thought about doing this but didn't think I needed too since on all my other cars, I didn't need to select the arrow pointing to the face.
