I wash it every 4 months, whether it needs it or not.

If by detailing you mean things like wax, polish, and condition --
I have never detailed any car I owned. Just wash & vacuum & wipe/dust, and sometimes steam clean the mats.

Did mine right around thanksgiving. Needed a slight paint correction after 3 years in various climates, weather and a few auto car washes when in the snow and temps at 0 degrees.

Simple process:
  1. Good wash (including the engine compartment).
  2. Clay bar with Adam’s medium grade clay bar kit.
  3. Orbital buffer polish (electric, speed 3-3.5), with Griots COMPLETE POLISH, first with an orange pad and then with a blue pad (6” for both). Polished the windows too.
  4. Nexgen Ceramic Spray Silicon Dioxide spray coating - did two coats on all painted surfaces - including the wheels. This product work as good as the super expensive coating that come in tiny little bottles. (I refresh after every other wash with a new coating layer).
  5. RainX on the exterior windows.
  6. Back to Black on all exterior trim.
  7. Dressed tires and cleaned out wheel wells.
  8. INTERIOR - Carpets with all purpose cleaning foam, interior cleaned and then interior detailed (hate the super shinny look and feel).
  9. Exhaust tips - Meguiar's G211606 Metal Polish - 6 Oz Container, then a few coats of ceramic
The paint is very slick and deep looking. Removed about 85% of the fine swirls, I like to do the minimal abrasive as possible, so there is plenty clear coat left for future details.

That is a nice looking garage. (The car is good too.)

It's the effort that counts.

It's the effort that counts. There's a beautiful RDX under all that snow.

Update: Prior to detailing my RDX, I clay barred the entire vehicle. It removed the contaminants for a smooth as glass finish. I've noticed a 25 HP increase in performance, just from the clay barring. YMMV.
