Anyone done first oil change on 2019 RDX? If so any pictures and steps to accomplish task?

I didn’t take any pics but it’s super easy, need to get the front up to fit under it. The bottom shields are aluminum and come off with a flat head screw driver, your turn 4 round metal clips and it comes off.

drain plug is right there at the bottom and the filter is near it mounted slightly sideways. I would highly recommend a filter wrench as mine was on there so tight I had to drill a hole into it and use a screw driver to turn it off. Other then that the rest is cake. Very easy car to do an oil change. Also you check the oil level when the engine is hot, turn off the engine let sit I think 1-3 minutes and then check the level, it took my 5.1 quarts with the filter, exactly what the manual specified


I used a WIX 57365XP filter, great quality filter, the tear downs on YouTube prove this filter is top notch, worth the $11, I’m gonna see if I can buy them online cheaper

• Oil Filter : 12 N-m, 9 Ft-lbs, 108 Inch-lbs
• Oil Drain Plug : 40 N-m, 30 Ft-lbs, 360 Inch-lbs

 

Lube the gasket on the new filter with clean engine oil and hand tighten.

IIRC the OEM filter comes pre-lubed with petrolatum, so the Acura instructions may not mention that. Neglecting the lube is likely to cause either leaks or a stuck filter.

After experimenting with every style of filter wrench over the past few decades, I have settled on the "pliers type". Way less messy than hammering a screwdriver into the side of the stuck filter, which is the usual fall-back when other wrenches fail.

Unless you happen to have a lift, the filter is easier to get at if you turn the steering wheel to the right BEFORE you drain the oil ( power assist is nice for an SUV ), and access it through the passenger side wheel well. It does help to turn the filter in the correct direction, which is remarkably easy to get wrong.

I'm not especially portly or claustrophobic ( more phobic about falling vehicles ), so I can change the oil without lifting the SUV. If you use ramps or jack stands ( NEVER just a jack!!!! ), you should lower the vehicle before you do the final oil level check.

Never mind about getting to the oil filter through the wheel well; I was thinking of the Acura V6 in my other vehicles.

 

Anyone have the OEM filter and crush gasket for oil plug factory numbers?

 

M1-110a is much better than OEM filter.

 

I posted the oil crush washer further up above, the filter I would have to look up, it’s easy to find on OEMacuraparts.com which btw is just a dealer that sells all the parts at discount, the receipt I got even shows I bought the parts right from the dealer for about 25-33% off of factory pricing
