Dealer Oil Change

We get free oil changes with our 2022 RDX A SPEC. Brought the vehicle in for service and to my surprise on the receipt it says blended 0w20 oil was used. I thought this particular oil weight only came in synthetic ? Looking it up online I see there is indeed a blended Honda/Acura version of the oil which is what they used. I thought only synthetic can be used especially since its a turbo engine?

owner manual allows any 0w20 oil for as long as its API approved. Since its “free” oil change, you get cheapest they can get, what did you expect?

I found this on the Castro site:

WHAT TYPE OF OIL IS A 0W-20?

To make a 0W-20, high quality base oils and strong additives are needed. The base oils must be able to protect and flow at very low temperatures. Typically, a large amount of synthetic oil is needed to allow the oil to flow well at these low temperatures. 0W-20 motor oils require synthetic base oils and are either full synthetic or part synthetic (synthetic blend) motor oil; 0W-20 oils are not conventional (or mineral) motor oils. And the additives must be thin enough to move well but still protect these newer advanced engines.

I had that experience with the dealership where I bought my Subaru the first time, them I started to change in my friend shop. Last Friday I change the oil of the 2021 RDX for the first time(4300 miles), bought the oil and filter in Amazon and forget about the dealership.
