Oil change question??
Oil change question??
I was at an Acura dealer in Dayton, Ohio and I was told by the service writer that my 08 only runs on synthetic only and the oil life counter is programmed for synthetic.
This is the first I have heard of this in 80K of dealing with Acura.
Anybody think there is any weight in his claim?

You can run non-synthetic or synthetic, although you should be running synthetic to reduce wear on your engine and better cooling/flow/lubrication.
I wouldn't really listen to the oil life counter telling me the interval to change the oil either. Maybe he's trying to charge your more for doing a "synthetic" oil change as opposed to a "dyno" oil change.

WRONG.
follow the MID for your oil change intervals. the car does not know whether you run synthetic or dino (you can run either in your car without issue). the service advisor you had is an idiot or really smart for trying to upsell you on synthetic oil by lying to you. i'd flip open the owner's manual in front of him and show him what the book says...IN FRONT of other customers. after that i'd present it to the service mgr and be VERY upset that the SA lied (or doesn't have a clue).

use synthetic, its going to make your motor last, and the price of regular motor oil, is not much cheaper than the Synthetic, so at $5 for regular oil compared to $8 for mobile 1 or Castrol, synthetic,
Get the better stuff,
5 quarts of full synthetics go for $25-$35 in the Tristate area.

Yea that guy seems to be an idiot, almost every dealership I have been to in cali has a list directly up front for those guys not to mess it up. Indicating weight of oil and in addition another oil; which is fully syn. All of which being Acura products, I have a type S, and the indicated oil is the Acura Syn-Blend. The Acura syn blend is actually one of the best oils to use, it has good properties to maintain horsepower longer and better at higher temps.
