Data your car collects & keeps

SmartCars like the RDX collect a "trove of data points were unique identifiers from...... phones, and a detailed log of phone calls from the previous week. There was a long list of contacts, right down to people’s address, emails and even photos."

Think of the data left in car rentals after people hookup their phones.

Good article here ......

I figure any hacker trying to access data from my car will be at least as confounded and stymied as I am doing a software update.

OTOH this is the perfect reason to delete the buggy AcuraLink app from my phone, turn off "data sharing" from the car, and eliminate one unnecessary annoyance from my life. I feel better already.

I have no problems with the AcuraLink app. I like it. Most of what they accessed in that article involved tearing the car apart to the point where they couldn't get it back together.

It doesn't take too much digging to get to GPS history. Ashley Madison users beware!

It’s only a matter of time before they start reporting your driving habits to your insurance companies

no doubt. If anything, anonymized for risk analysis.... This is why and how Tesla is starting to offer it's own insurance to Tesla owners.

You left off the quotes around “anonymized”.
