Needs to be at the second dot. I always dump 5qt, it’s fine
I understand where it needs to be, but wondering if we confirm with the light oil film that's already above the upper mark, or bring up the darker oil part in the pic to the upper mark?
Always difficult to see the oil level with this dipstick, especially with clean new oil. I often have to wipe and retry several times.
One thing that helps a bit it to roughen up the surface of the orange plastic with some sandpaper.
After draining the oil and changing the filter, I find that 5 quarts added puts me just above halfway between low and high. 5L would typically put you close to the high mark. If you didn't change the filter, of didn't fully drain the oil (car tilted or something), 5L could put you above the high mark.
I have found that the oil level on the dip stick will change quite a bit, depending on how long the engine has been shut down, maybe 0.2 quarts or so.

The image below is what I see after filling with 5L jug.
That's what I'm trying to understand with this horrible dipstick. Do I measure by the height of the thin film of oil in the blue area, or measure by the height of the thick coat of oil, where the thick coat of oil (yellow arrow) should be at the upper marker?
Edit: if I'm to measure by the thick coat of oil, then I haven't got enough oil and need to top up. If I'm to measure by the thin film, then I'm way over.

First wipe the dipstick dry, then re-insert the stick and remove. The level is where it is still "wet" looking, so you go by the thin film you are referring to. I agree, the dipstick makes it difficult, I need to go under specific lighting to see the transition line between wet and dry on the dipstick. A little bit overfill within the orange section won't hurt anything

Hope that makes sense.
Thx
your picture does not clearly show the level. Make sure to wipe it thoroughly before taking a reading. It should be very clear line that separates dry and wet. I never had an issue seeing a clear line that separates wet and dry.

I fill mine to the upper mark of your blue area. And with fresh oil, it is difficult to see. It is usually a little over that top mark, especially if the engine sat for a while and all the oil settled into the oil pan.
